Nevada Copper Underground Production General Foreman in Yerington, Nevada

Nevada Copper (TSX:NCU) owns Pumpkin Hollow - the only large-scale, fully-permitted copper project in North America. Located in Nevada, USA, Pumpkin Hollow has substantial reserves and resources including copper, gold and silver. Initial production is planned by end of 2019. With global mine supply declining and demand increasing, this is the right project at the right time.

Job Description

The Underground Production General Foreman is responsible for managing and leading the day-to-day operation of the mine, interacting with the Mine Supervisors, and mine personnel to ensure that all aspects of the underground operations are being met and optimized to achieve the Company’s objectives. Develop and train employees to standards for safe and efficient equipment operation.

Accountability

The Underground Production General Foreman reports directly to the Mine Manager – PHUP, in all aspects of the Pumpkin Hollow Underground Project, and is accountable for all aspects of underground operations, supervisor and employee development, project oversight and cost control. This incumbent will directly supervise four (4) Mine Supervisors.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead by example to ensure a collaborative approach to safety inter-dependency

  • Oversee an underground mining crew to safely and effectively complete underground operations objectives

  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in a healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable manner

  • Conduct frequent workplace inspections

  • Meet and exceed budgeted production tonnage and grade

  • Evaluate, prioritize, plan, and assign operators to safely complete necessary underground mining operations

  • Partner with maintenance to ensure all PM/PDM’s are completed on time

  • Work with maintenance and engineering departments to ensure daily, weekly and monthly plans are aligned

  • Provide any assigned reports pertinent to the underground operations

  • Formulate, monitor, and ensure employee compliance of policies and procedures

  • Occasionally use hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and other mechanical instruments and equipment to assist operations personnel in operating mine equipment and property

  • Managing the way in which hourly and salary employees interact and communicate in a manner that provides positive support for the organization top to bottom

  • Complete organization and planning of manpower, materials and equipment, assist in developing and monitoring work schedules, monitor and control costs within budget parameters

Knowledge/Education

  • Strong experience with safety and health in the mining industry with a demonstrable track record of delivering safety results

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a mining environment

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

  • An in-depth understanding of underground mine development and planning

  • An in-depth understanding of underground mining practices, policies, procedures and standards

  • An in-depth understanding of underground equipment

  • A comprehensive understanding of min-site operations

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of hourly and salary employees or organization

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Adaptability to work effectively in a context of change, manage conflicting demands, and adapt to a variety of situations and individuals

  • Effective conflict resolution skills

  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to lead and motivate individuals and teams

  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks with minimal supervision

  • Strong computer skills (i.e. MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

Physical and Mental Demands and Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Climb stairwells and be capable of working on elevated platforms

  • Walk on uneven ground

  • Periodically work in adverse weather conditions

  • Lift and potentially carry weights of up to 50 lbs.

  • Sit for extended periods of time

  • Stay alert during periods of inactivity

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment

The incumbent is expected to work a 40 hour/week schedule, primarily from Monday through Friday. Personal Protective Equipment required for the field work portion of this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
