Your Key Responsibilities

  • This position is an external client facing position with our Management Consulting Team.

  • As a Managing Consultant within the Management Consulting Team, you will be supporting financial, economic, and management consulting services to local governments.

  • The successful candidate will:

  • Leading and assisting the project team in interactive meetings with our clients to identify and analyze issues affecting their organizations and key stakeholders.

  • Working dynamically with project teams to identify best-fit solutions to complex business, strategic, and operational issues, that involve elevated risk.

  • Serve as a primary member of multiple teams at client meetings; including performing interactive demonstrations of models and facilitating workshops, as well as directing and training junior staff in these areas.

  • Developing quantitative models and work products, with limited oversight, to support client business challenges across multiple industries for a variety of highly complex issues; as well as directing and training junior staff in these areas.

  • Maintain and grow core client relationships and lead business development efforts in responding to client requests, RFQs, and RFPs.

  • Serve as an independent reviewer of analysis prepared by peers or junior staff to ensure technical accuracy and appropriateness of methods and tools being utilized as well as solutions being evaluated.

  • In some cases, serving as the project manager for client engagements, ensuring delivery of high-quality services on time and within budget.

  • Meet performance goals and objectives as assigned, with respect to client-specific demands, stated delivery milestones, quality standards, project management framework, mentoring of junior staff, and all required training activities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of local government organizational structure, accounting / financial reporting, and types of services they provide is required.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel including quantitative modeling and analysis required. Experience with additional data analysis tools is a plus, including but not limited to Access, Power BI/Tableau, GIS, SQL, Python, R, etc.

  • Proficiency with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro and other business systems required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Capable of presenting/sharing analyses in an interactive work setting while being able to make adjustments in a live setting.

  • Self-starter capable of efficiently and proactively working independently as well as with a geographically dispersed team on multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong sense of Team. Always willing to step in and take on additional responsibility for the good of the entire Team.

  • Strong attention to details as product deliverables are open to public review and scrutiny.

  • Requires a satisfactory driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, finance, economics, environment, statistics, engineering, accounting, or related fields are required.

  • 15 years total post-undergraduate working experience in municipal management consulting, business management, and/or local governments.

  • Knowledge of and experience with utility rate setting practices and legal requirements in multiple states

  • Direct work experience/history with local government agencies
