Job Purpose and Impact​

Are you looking for a role that requires a diverse skillset in a regulatory environment? The Senior Chemical Regulatory & Product Steward will provide subject matter expertise with chemical regulatory compliance, chemical management and industrial product stewardship for products with bio-industrial and industrial applications. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and maintaining processes and programs built to minimize deficiencies and ensure compliance with existing Federal, State and local laws, regulations, licenses, permits and ordinances pertaining to bio-industrial safety. This level performs work under very general direction and independently resolves and develops approaches to complex problem and provides solutions, while and referring only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.

Key Accountabilities​

  • Monitors, assesses and documents business impacts, resolve actions and communicates to partners changing or emerging product stewardship/chemical regulatory laws and regulations with an action plan for deployment and implementation of actions working with teams.

  • Provides expertise and knowledge of existing and emerging global chemical regulations, their applicability and analysis for chemical regulations in North America and other regions.

  • Provides complete and balanced required country-specific substance registrations, reporting, notifications and dossier development where products may be distributed and/or sold to support new product development and launch as well as growth of existing products.

  • Performs research and critical review of chemical, biochemical, and general toxicology/safety data and literature, compile reports and notifications to governmental agencies

  • Delivers chemical regulatory/ product stewardship/ training to the business, technical teams and/or customers.

  • Participates in advocacy efforts within significant trade organizations, product panels, and product environmental safety groups as necessary to elevate/support Cargill’s position with innovation, development and compliance efforts.

  • Works with other regional chemical regulatory / product stewards to coordinate compliance requirements as applicable.

  • Collaborates with the business and other functions to support implementation of global product stewardship strategy, policies, standards, programs and operating procedures as applicable.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This position may be considered for remote work arrangements, from a home-office location

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, toxicology, chemistry, biology, bioengineering or a related discipline OR equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 4​ years of related experience in a chemical manufacturing environment OR product Stewardship

  • Experience with managing compliance of hazardous chemicals.

  • Experience reviewing substance level information on tox/eco-tox, OELs, in-vivo, in-vitro studies or other hazard classification data to support environmental and safety risk assessments

  • Experience managing regulatory submissions under TSCA and FIFRA

  • Knowledge and experience of existing and emerging chemical regulations (such as: TSCA, FIFRA, Prop 65, Substance Registrations, GHS, etc)

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing regulatory submissions for products of biotechnology (such as MCAN or FDA GRAS, etc.)

  • Experience with new product development processes and procedures across the product lifecycle including R&D, product development, and supply chain.

  • Knowledge in Management of Change processes.

  • Experience developing systems and processes for regulatory compliance.

  • SAP-EHS module experience.

  • Experience with state and chemical controlled substance and precursor chemical compliance such as DEA registrations and diversion control

  • Active participation in international chemical trade associations.

  • REACH experience in the EU and other countries outside the EU.

  • Experience leading or supporting cross functional groups and teams.

  • USDA APHIS permit knowledge, etc.

  • Experience in determining DOT classification

  • Experience with regulatory monitoring/scientific data tools such as chemical watch, 3E Insight for Chemicals, Sci-finder®, QSARs or other similar tools.
