The Regional Process Development Supervisor will deliver the regional catalyst process understanding and optimization activities needed for successful EVALUATE through SCALE-UP phase reviews.
This position is part of the North American Product and Process Development leadership team and is responsible for collaborating both within and outside of this team to formulate and deliver upon the department’s goals and objectives in meeting the greater business’ needs. Operating primarily within a NPI framework, this position entails hands-on direct supervision of a team of chemists and/or engineers engaged in the physical preparation of developmental emissions control catalysts for mobile and/or stationary source applications. Ongoing results from these activities are then used to provide growth/development opportunities for staff as well as strengthen product design, coating development, and technology scale-up/transfer programs being driven locally and globally. The work environment regularly spans the full spectrum from laboratory to pilot plant through to eventual mass production.
Collaborate with internal customers (scientists, engineers, technical program managers) to assist with and clarify technical requirements and specifications for sample requests.
Collaborate with other area supervisors (peers and pilot plant) to schedule and coordinate sample preparation requests from internal customers with the aim to maximize both efficiency and effectiveness in meeting business needs.
Supervise staff to ensure they have both the means and ability to prepare catalyst samples as described in experimental plans, and to applicable specifications.
Provide regular and comprehensive performance feedback for up to eight direct reports including progress against agreed upon performance objectives, development objectives and competencies required for their role. Ensure that reviews are completed on time and at specified intervals and that an appropriate degree of accountability is maintained at all times.
Build and maintain a strong/diverse team through effective hiring, training, coaching, supervision and development of all direct reports.
Ensure proper contribution of self and staff toward improvements in pilot plant safety, quality, and efficiency.
Ensure that team processes, procedures and documentation are in compliance with the requirements of the Quality Management Systems (ISO/IATF16949) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO14001) prescribed to by the site.
Drive forward the implementation and use of NPI and KeyedIn project management systems. Lead regional and global NPI teams as required.
Ensure that the development laboratories and assigned pilot plant areas are maintained in a clean and safe condition (as determined by EHS representative) and that safe operating practices are maintained.
Manages routine and capital projects aimed at developing/enhancing process capabilities from the laboratory through to scale-up.
Prepare monthly reports covering all updates within area of responsibility including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or similar performance metrics, use these data to drive continuous improvement within the team and across the department.
Ensure that management guidance on spending is followed within the team.
Represents the department during audits (EH&S, QMS, EMS, Security, etc.) and advocates a strong safety culture.
Lead regional or global IDEA to DEVELOP phase NPI teams as required. Support SCALE-UP and CLOSE OUT teams.

Are you the ideal candidate?
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with 8+ years’ chemical processing or manufacturing experience and 3+ years’ experience directly supervising technical personnel; or any equivalent relevant combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
General chemistry and strong math skills
Awareness of NPI process and how it is utilized within JM
Demonstrated leadership skills
Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
Mechanical aptitude and hands-on orientation
Effective cross-functional team leadership as it applies to NPI teams.
Maintains sufficient technical competence to train staff and advise/assist in technical troubleshooting. Should be able to temporarily fill in for technicians in situations of extreme need.
Maintain and enhance knowledge in field of expertise through attendance at appropriate meetings and training courses.
