Job Description

Job Summary :

The Sr. Database Administrator will manage, escalate and resolve complex production and design issues related to RDBMS, NOSQL, and other database technologies both on site and in cloud based implementations. Support existing database implementations and lead/participate in the design and implementation of new data architecture in pursuit of security, reliability, availability, and performance based upon business requirements. Lead in the database implementation portion of projects, providing strategic vision, managing technical and business resources to ensure results conform to quality and time stipulations, and maintaining appropriate relationship with customers, business partners and other business associates.

Principal Duties:

  • Collaborate with the IT Engineering team and act as technical participant in the design, development, testing, implementation and support of multiple strategic database technologies.

  • Ability to apply ITPS Security standards and practices as well as adhere to these standards in the development and design of new and existing technologies within our corporate and store infrastructure.

  • Provide production support as necessary in the deployment of application upgrades and patches, and by acting as part of the Release Management process.

  • Participate in research around database related technology products and make recommendations based on business or operational requirements. Anticipate potential problematic situations/risks and address them with effective responses.

  • Administer, support, and maintain data infrastructure components. Troubleshoot high-level problems and document procedures to guide resolution process.

  • Facilitate issue resolution between internal ITPS teams and external IT business partners.

  • Analyze and define database configuration, hardware, software and associated utilities.

  • Integrate enterprise-wide tools for automating, monitoring and managing the current and future technology environments.

  • Establish a performance baseline. Monitor database performance and tune for peak performance.

  • Develop, document, implement, and maintain database management strategies, policies and procedures, including security, support, training, and installation procedures.

  • Maintain a significant degree of decision making regarding data related privileges and responsibilities.

  • Work with internal and external business clients to plan new databases and the database enhancements necessary to address expanding business needs.

  • Develop project plans to install, upgrade, and manage database management software.

  • Recommend, design, implement, and support database integration into business solutions, while meeting the business goals and objectives. This includes supporting documentation and diagrams detailing the specific infrastructure.

  • Lead and/ or participate in Information Technology related projects. Drive all projects enlisting technical resources where necessary. Provide project management, technical assistance and strategic vision for our technical infrastructure services.

  • Ensure the use of configuration management tools to prevent temporary or undocumented configuration changes. Participates in change control process as required.

  • Provide support vendors with documented procedures and training material as well as safety standards in order to provide superior support services. This includes the management of our support vendors in many situations.

  • Deliver inventory and asset management of appropriate infrastructure. Meet and establish working relationships with field engineers and account managers in order to establish clear communication paths. Provide leadership and continuous improvement of standards to enable a more customer focused, responsive department.

  • Develop production support models designed to enhance response times and maintain high availability of all production infrastructure components and systems.

  • Identify and implement improvements to technology to proactively manage support.

  • Evaluate the technical activities of Associates to ensure that each activity provides value in the context of database technologies. Examine and re-engineer these activities and related business processes in order to facilitate reporting and meet established business requirements/guidelines. Make appropriate cost saving recommendations to achieve the financial strategic plan.

  • Perform audits as required to ensure PCI compliance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a technical discipline (e.g., engineering) preferred

  • 10+ years of related work experience

  • Ability to achieve certifications in multiple appropriate strategic technologies.

  • MSSQL administration

  • MySQL administration

  • Oracle DBMS administration

  • Vertica administration

  • Exposure to infrastructure design, implementation and support

  • Minimum of three years’ experience operating and managing in a large-scale Windows/Linux environment.

  • Knowledge of architecture and taxonomy of RDBMS, NOSQL, and other database technologies

  • Exposure to appropriate support and database management solutions.
