UnityPoint Health Ultrasound Lead in Waterloo, Iowa

Assists in leading the day-to-day operations of the department. Schedules, supports and develops staff members. Collaborates with physicians/offices and other health care workers, to provide medical imaging and patient care while maintaining professional standards. Communicates with others to ensure correct supplies and staffing requirements are met. Demonstrates effective leadership skills and role models Allen's FOCUS Values. Successful performance of these expectations will contribute to an increase in both quality care and patient/family satisfaction.

  • Coordinates rooms/schedules/staffing to compliment patient care needs. Accountable for staffing needs and work schedules. Reviews and approves payroll. Helps with staff education/in-services/specialized skilled training programs. Assists in the hiring and orientation program of newly hired staff.

  • Provides leadership by directing, coordinating and delegating patient care in an organized manner, allowing for flexibility. Acts as manager when manager is absent. Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.

  • Creates an environment that promotes staff empowerment. Displays creativity and innovation when making recommendations for improvement in the delivery of services to the hospital. Is able to instruct and lead the staff so that a high level of productivity is maintained, intervening when necessary, to problem solve.

  • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Responsible to maintain current professional expertise. Promotes personal and professional growth among coworkers. Exhibits discretion and sound judgment in all aspects of the job.

  • Collaborating with the supervisor/manager/director, effectively resolves complex unit situations, such as patient complaints and crises.

  • Researches and recommends short and long term strategies to meet the patient care needs. Assists with the achievement of objectives and necessary modifications for attainment of goals.

  • Represents UnityPoint Health (UPH) in a professional manner. Promotes positive interpersonal relations and serves as a role model within the department and with hospital personnel.

Provides immediate feedback (positive and negative) about job performance to personnel on team. Provides input to supervisor/manager/director on performance evaluations.

  • Leads daily operations of patient care. Contributes to the maintenance of high quality, cost effective services consistent with the needs of the users and the hospital's budgetary guidelines. Assists in identifying and explaining key variances. Acts as an interdepartmental liaison promoting effective multidisciplinary team work. Identify and implement cost saving ideas.

  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.

  • *Shift accountability and part of unit scheduling rotation

  • *Advanced knowledge of field along with beginning supervisory experience

  • *Coordinates shift activities of department.

  • -May be required to completed tasks of working personnel when the need arises.

  • *Responsible for daily scheduling and maintains appropriate staff levels

  • *Responsible for staff orientation & on-job training, including competencies

  • *Provides input into developing and improving team member performance

  • -Provides feedback to supervisor/manager/director for performance management

Clinically proficient as a sonographer in performing diagnostic procedures, including vascular ultrasound, on patients of all ages.

Certified and holds current registration with the ARDMS or the ARRT in Sonography.

Must be able to read and write English.


HS diploma or equivalent

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Prefer 1-2 years of experience in US in the hospital environment, and demonstrated leadership abilities of transitioning from peer to supervisor position.

Preferred RVT certified.
