CleanChoice Energy Vice President of Product & Platform Engineering in Washington, District Of Columbia

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    A. Engineering Vision & Strategy & Principles

  • Engineering Vision - Define and steward the vision of the CleanChoice engineering organization from people structures to enterprise platform concepts, from culture to capabilities

  • Strategic Alignment - Serve as a key technology executive who ensures alignment with the multi-year CleanChoice business strategy and product vision

  • Designing People Structures - Establish engineering team design principles that foster team member growth, leadership opportunities, technical mastery and cross-training through

    B. Engineering Culture, Leadership, and Staff Success

  • Executive-level Planning and Delivery Management

  • Develop and cultivate strong relationship with key stakeholders to drive the planning and execution of vital strategic and operational goals

  • Ensure delivery of critical business strategies by aligning engineering talent and capabilities – both internal and external – that enables business growth

  • Serve as key contributor to the resource planning work for future initiatives, particularly new green field business initiatives

  • Define meaningful, measurable and aligned OKRs for the department

  • Foster a culture of accountability focused on delivering meaningful results for the organization.

  • Remote/Global Workforce Development - Lead and develop a global-team culture with a large distribution of engineering, product, and data team partners with good onboarding and business continuity

    Advanced Digital & Microservices Architectures

  • Frontend Digital Architecture - working with our product engineering leaders to oversee technology selection – particularly our JS frameworks – and the evolution of our digital products

  • Enterprise Services Architecture

  • API Management

    Digital Personalization Services

  • Personalization Stack - Define a technical roadmap for implementation of our personalization stack

  • Marketing & Personalization - Lead the architecture and implementation of services for product and promotion personalization across marketing channels; work with the data science team to integrate AI/ML capabilities

    Martech and Digital Marketing Services

  • Martech Architecture - Lead the architecture and implementation of our near-realtime streaming customer data architectures including the continued evolution of our customer data platform and event-driven customer engagement platforms

  • Tagging and Measurement Solutions

  • Full Customer Journey Integration

    Retail & Subscription Ecommerce Platform Services

  • Ecommerce Architecture - Drive the development of our composable commerce platform for our energy service products and future product launches

  • Ecommerce Ecosystem Implementation

    Devops, Infrastructure Reliability & Engineering Automation

  • Infrastructure and Devops Roadmap - Lead the vision, roadmap development and strategic prioritization for our infrastructure to include cloud hosting and technology solutions for infrastructure-as-code and devops

  • Cloud and On-prem Platform Selection

    Cross-Pod Technical Architecture

  • Feature Flagging - Design and implement a feature management and feature flagging solution that enables coordinated release management in a cross-pod environment

  • Cross-Pod Development Processes - Define solutions that streamline the development, testing and implementation of cross-pod solutions

    QUALIFICATIONS

    VP of Engineering Technical Knowledge:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Vice President (or technology executive) leading large Software Development groups, preferably in a ecommerce, retail or direct-to-consumer organization

  • At least 10+ years of experience in leading engineering teams

  • Solid understanding of software development, including analysis, architecture and design, development tools and technologies, release and deployment

  • Solid experience in development process methodologies (e.g agile/scrum)

  • Significant experience and knowledge in the following technologies

  • MVC / Web API

  • Client side technologies - HTML 5 / CSS / JavaScript Frameworks (JQuery, etc.) / React / NextJS

  • Relational DBs - MS-SQL / Postgres

  • NoSQL – Elasticsearch, Snowflake, Cassandra, Couchbase, ElasticSearch

  • Deployment – Release Management, PowerShell scripts, Operation, Terraform, chef, puppet

  • MacOS, Windows, Linux

  • Expertise with AWS IaaS (EC2, S3, lambda, policy management etc.)

    VP of Engineering Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent analytical skills, along with superb communication skills

  • Experience managing large teams and distributed development projects

  • Experience developing engineering staff from associates to director-level engineers

  • Passion for technology; drive to be the best

  • Comfortable tackling new problems and thinking outside the box

  • Strong attention to business needs and converting them to working and effective products

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technology and market trends as a foundation for technology and product roadmaps

  • Demonstrated ability to drive quality improvement

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with waterfall, agile/scrum methodologies, and complete application life-cycle management

  • Ability to adapt to various technologies and research new concepts

  • Proven success in establishing key performance indicators, metrics, and focus to drive software development best practices

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with exec lead team and peers throughout the organization

  • Advanced negotiation, problem solving and interpersonal skills (presentation, written and oral) and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and executive leadership

  • Technical depth that lets you fluidly traverse architecture, product, software development and infra discussions

    VP of Engineering Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrates global business and cultural awareness

  • Experience with complexity of running large organization P&L analysis at enterprise level

  • Understanding of competitor analysis: market landscape, strengths and weaknesses, and the knowledge of competitors’ financial health

  • Ability to predict customer expectations related to business decisions
