Federal Transit Administration Supervisory Transportation Management Specialist in Washington, District Of Columbia
This leadership position is in the Office of Research, Demonstration and Innovation (TRI). The incumbent leads the FTA’s Safety and Infrastructure Research Program; and oversees the bus testing program.
TheSupervisory Transportation Management Specialist: Directs a multidisciplinary team of researchers, engineers, and transportation specialists. Ensures staff effectively program manage their research projects in alignment with Federal regulations and USDOT/FTA priorities.
Works with industry groups, academic institutions and other research partners to develop programs that improve safety, saves lives, reduces injuries, and sets voluntary standards that assist transit agencies to improve public transportation safety.
Oversees a portfolio of asset innovation research, to include activities to support advanced bus technology (Zero Emission Buses).
Maintains cooperative, collaborative working relationships with a variety of public transportation officials at all levels of Federal,State, and local government, transit service and equipment suppliers, and contractors and consultants, and academia regarding industry needs, problems and issues.
Performs a wide range of supervisory responsibilities, including assigning work, setting priorities, ensuring timely and high-quality work products, appraising performance, developing and utilizing staff to the full extent of their potential, motivating a cooperative team spirit, fostering a productive work environment, recruiting qualified individuals to fill vacancies, and taking fair and appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary. This position is ideal for a senior level transportation professional who has experience leading innovative research programs that develop, deploy, and demonstrate solutions, testing modalities, and technologies that improve public transportation. The candidate should also have supervisory skills as well as familiarity with bus engineering concepts and engineering methods; experience collaborating with a broad stakeholder audience including the private sector; and excellent leadership and communication skills.

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.To qualify for the Grade 15, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-14, it must include: Experience with transportation research program development, management, acquisition, evaluation, and oversight of data analysis and recipients.
Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholder groups on transportation matters
Experience supervising, managing or leading a diverse group of professionals, including developing strategic vision and work plans, reviewing work products, assessing performance, developing staff, and building consensus.
