The Managing Director – Government Affairs must be a strategic, proactive advocate with a proven track record of creating and executing successful public policy campaigns. A qualified candidate must have experience with analyzing and advocating for complicated policy issues before the Administration, Senate and Congress. Responsibilities in this role include working closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop policy priorities and representing Delta Government Affairs before the United States Senate, House of Representatives and the White House and cabinet-level agencies. Finally, the candidate will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing legislation that may have an impact on Delta’s operation, business or employees, and will communicate with Delta lines of business about potential policy impacts. The successful candidate must be a team-player and have legislative and political experience, be a strong team-player and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The candidate will be charged with developing, preserving and enhancing Delta's relationships on Capitol Hill, relevant trade associations, and think tanks. ThesuccessfulcandidatemustpossesssignificantpoliticalacumenandhaveestablishedrelationshipswithMembersofCongress andCongressionalstaff; contacts within the Senate Commerce Committee, House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, Senate/House Committees on Homeland Security, and/or theCongressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are preferred.
A demonstrated understanding of the federal legislative and budget processes is necessary to be successful in this role. A familiarity with aviation policy issues is a plus. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with congressional hearings, oversight investigations, and the annual appropriations process. Required experience will also include advocating for policy positions, monitoring legislation, and analyzing the impact of legislative proposals.
The selected individual will work regularly with senior executives throughout the company to develop a sound legislative strategy in line with the company's objectives. The ability to communicate at all levels of the company and develop relationships with both frontline employees and senior leaders throughout Delta will be required.

What you need to succeed (minimum qualifications)
A minimum of 10+ years of experience in the government arena is required, either as a legislative affairs professional with a major company or trade association, or as congressional staff.
Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade others with strong interpersonal skills and political acumen.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to a range of stakeholders and to interact with congressional leaders, corporate executives and staff/employees at all levels of an organization.
Strong written communication skills, with experience producing policy papers, letters and memorandum for a broad range of users.
Demonstrated success working in a team environment.
Demonstrated success with balancing multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
Embraces diverse people, thinking and styles.
Consistently makes safety and security, of self and others, the priority.
Bachelor's degree is required. An advanced degree is desirable.
