KBR is seeking a Development-to-Ops Manager to support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the Ground System and Mission Operations (GSMO-2) contract for the Earth Science Mission Operations (ESMO) project. ESMO is responsible for the spacecraft health and safety, data processing, development and sustaining engineering for Terra, Aqua, Aura, GPM, and other Earth Science missions.
Initial priority for this position is to establish and implement a DevOps security model, which involves working with software teams, system administrators, IT Security, and Operations teams to coordinate the planning, content definition, testing and deployment of OS and COTS updates per the ESMO patching plan. This position will be responsible for the integration of security throughout DevOps processes and procedures, with an understanding of the challenges involved with continuous testing in operational environments. Strong collaboration skills are needed to build change consensus based on stakeholder feedback and team concerns. Effective leadership skills are needed to plan, provide technical direction, and evaluate effectiveness of DevOps processes. Leadership responsibilities include coordinating efforts of software engineering teams, reviewing, and guiding implementation of processes, recommending corrections, and ensuring process consistency across multiple software teams. Other related tasks will involve researching and recommending DevSecOps tools for potential integration into development team workflows.
The primary location for this position is Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. Infrequent travel to conferences, trainings, and similar activities may be necessary. Telework arrangements are available.
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Required Education, Experience & Skills:
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field
12+ years of progressively complex engineering experience
5 years of complex software engineering, testing, and process implementation in a lead role
Qualified candidates should have the skills and experience in most of the following areas:
Knowledge of DevOps and DevSecOps core concepts
Strong collaboration skills able to inspire team members to embrace DevSecOps culture, build connections and relieve bottlenecks between/within development and operations teams
Excellent organizational skills
Software engineering experience; Lead or management experience for a software project
Software testing experience using a formal test methodology and/or automation
Experience in defining, implementing, and adapting processes
Effective writing skills as this task requires documenting Project-level processes
Ability to communicate effectively with NASA customers, software teams, IT Security, and system administrators
Expertise in implementation of CI/CD processes
Configuration and implementation of SAST/DAST tools
