AMRI Occupational Toxicologist in Waltham, Massachusetts

Occupational Toxicologist AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The Occupational Toxicologist will oversee AMRI’s potent compound and toxicological programs. They will be required to provide stewardship and support for AMRIs global project portfolio. The individual will be part of the global environmental health and safety (EHS) team responsible for setting standards, developing culture and providing technical advice to business units. Responsibilities • Research, evaluate and assign occupational exposure bands (OEBs) or occupational exposure limits (OELs) for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), intermediates and hazardous chemicals • Advise project teams on the appropriate control measures to safely handle materials • Develop health based exposure limits (ADEs, PDEs) to support cleaning validations • Generate and maintain toxicology assessments and manage database of these along with associated literature • Review and update old project toxicology assessments to meet current internal standards • Review new business opportunities and advise on the safe handling requirements • Drive improvement of the company’s global standards and site level procedures. Audit site-level policies/procedures and develop improvement plans to comply with internal standards and regulatory requirements • Provide other toxicological advice, support, and training to the business as required. E.g. Environmental toxicity assessments, information for safety data sheets (SDS), toxicity testing, and product quality issues • Manage and prioritize multiple projects in line with business goals • The role requires travel to other sites both within the US and abroad (up to 20%) Qualifications: Requirements • Bachelor’s Degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline is required. An advanced degree is a plus • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Toxicologist is required, preferably in the Pharmaceutical industry • DABT certification required • Experienced in assignment of OELs, OEBs, ADEs and performing in-silico toxicity prediction • Experienced in critical evaluation of information from multiple sources, including in vivo, in vitro toxicological studies, pre-clinical and clinical studies • Experience with high-potency pharmaceutical handling techniques, pharmaceutical regulations and structure-activity relationships is advantageous • Excellent scientific and technical writing skills • Self-motivated, able to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet timelines • Works effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple sites and cultures All interested applicants must apply online.
