About our Nurse Extern Program:
offers a unique opportunity to build an excellent clinical skill set in a real-world work environment. Under the direction of an RN, the Nurse Extern contributes to the clinical care of patients. Externs have opportunities in a number of clinical and specialty areas with flexible scheduling determined by the student’s school schedule and specific Unit needs. Externs are required to work a minimum of 8 hours per week with a max of 20 hours per week (please note during school breaks, you are able to work up to 40 hours). The Program includes an offer of employment at Providence St. Mary Medical Center as a Nurse Extern, along with tuition assistance of $3,000 per calendar year as funds are available.
To be eligible for consideration for the Nurse Extern Program, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
Enrolled and in active good standing in an accredited ADN or BSN Program
Available to attend mandatory orientation:
Tuesday, July 6th-9th, 2021
Successful completion of program’s first quarter (ADN) or semester (BSN) prior to orientation
Successful completion of one quarter or semester of clinical rotations prior to orientation
Hold an overall minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Utilize tuition assistance ($3,000 per calendar year) as funds are available
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.
WA State Nurse Technician Licensure (application completed following offer of employment).

Most recent transcript including GPA (unofficial okay)
An offer of employment is contingent upon meeting the minimum 3.0 GPA requirement at your current college.
If this is your first quarter/semester, please submit most recent transcript from your prior school so that bundle is complete. However, your current college's transcript will be used in the 3.0 GPA determination when grades become available.
What to expect next:
All candidates who meet the minimum requirements of the Nurse Extern program will have received an email invitation to complete our pre-screening virtual interview, where he/she will be able to record their responses. The pre-screening interview will be evaluated in determining who advances to live virtual interviews with the hiring managers. We ask that all video interviews be completed no later than Sunday, April 11 th , 2021.
Interviews will Hiring Managers will take place the week of April 19 th , with offer decisions made by April 27 th , 2021.
Nurse Externs work under the Nurse Technician license, which grows with the student’s education
