Job Summary:

American Family Insurance is experiencing rapid growth and expansion with technology, transformation, innovation and talent leading the way. The Cloud Transformation Engineer Role is key to our digital transformation and to be the industry platform benchmark of technology, data and security . This is a opportunity to put your handprint on a unique cloud platform build that is agnostic and highly customer focused.

This is a high profile individual contributor role that works collaboratively with Software Engineers to analyze, develop, implement, support, and continuously evolve software-defined infrastructure, application patterns, software, and technology solutions in Cloud agnostic environments. More specifically, the focus is to govern, monitor, and secure the cloud environments and data for the company. Builds repeatable solutions working within and between engineering and operations teams to identify and implement process improvements.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Designs, develops, builds, deploys and maintains cloud platform solutions, primary in the areas of software-defined infrastructure

  • Engages with engineering and operations teams throughout the life cycle to help develop software for reliability

  • Troubleshoots complex issues with tools, processes, applications or infrastructure

  • Evaluate current development and operations procedures, recommend and implement tools and practices to increase efficiency, reliability and repeatability

  • Leads operational reviews of cloud architecture with the goal of automating and improving the existing and future environments

  • Configure, deploy, and manage services and applications; troubleshoots complex systems

Travel Requirements

  • This position requires travel up to 5% of the time.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of application development methodologies (e.g. Agile) and product based teams

  • General understanding/exposure to key Cloud services (EC2, S3, Cloud Watch, Containers)

  • Basic System Administration (configurations, installations, patch management, server maintenance, etc.) and Network Management (firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, DNS)

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of multiple IT subject areas (e.g. development, testing, configuration, deployment, monitoring etc.)

  • Limited experience building automation for cloud environments using tools such as Cloudformation, Terraform & Ansible.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding in one or more of the following: Java, Python, Linux, Shell, Bash or other programming languages

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, BitBucket, Gitlab, etc

  • Limited experience establishing, using and supporting integration and communication protocols between applications, databases, and technology platforms.
