State of Georgia Agriculture Inspector 1 - Plant Protection in United States

This position is assigned to the following counties: * * *Baldwin * Burke * Columbia * Glascock * Hancock * Jefferson * Jenkins * Johnson * McDuffie * Richmond * Screven * Warren * Washington * Wilkinson Applicant must reside in this county or surrounding area or be willing to relocate. Job Summary: * Inspects live plant growers and dealers (sod farms, nurseries, tree farms, etc.) to ensure compliance with state regulations and proper maintenance of plants. * Verifies compliance with Department-issued agreements and certifications for interstate and international export of plants, fruits, vegetables, etc. * Performs state and federal phytosanitary certification inspections as requested * Performs apiary (bee) inspections as requested * Monitors crops and/or environs for specific agricultural pests Minimum Qualifications: Vocational/Technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology or a closely related field from an accredited college OR High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in the area of assignment OR Two years of college, which included 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences. Preferred Qualifications and Skills: /Preference will be given to applicants, who,in additionto meeting the Minimum Qualifications, possess knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas:/ * Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, biological sciences or a directly related field OR Ownership or management experience in an agricultural or horticultural business. * Working knowledge of Windows computer operating system and applications. Physical Demands: Incumbents in this job must work outdoors in varied terrain, including plant nurseries, greenhouses, agricultural production areas and apiaries for extended periods of time. Intermittent periods of walking, squatting, kneeling and driving.Must be able to life 50lb boxes.This job requires travel.
