LCV Kosovo: Emergency Vehicle Technician

Emergency vehicle technicians (EVTs) perform specialized automotive work on emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks. Most have a vocational education in automotive systems technology with certification to work on emergency vehicles. EVTs can work on an ambulance, fire truck, or airport rescue and firefighter vehicle repair or become master emergency vehicle technicians. EVT’s perform inspections, maintenance, repairs, diagnoses, and performance testing in accordance with NFPA and manufacture standards, and shall be capable of performing heavy vehicle maintenance on commercial and military design firefighting or other emergency vehicles and equipment; Organizes and coordinates the activities involved to maintain and repair fire and emergency equipment; Ensures that equipment is maintained according to requirements; Utilizes Computerized Equipment Management System to monitor and control equipment maintenance; must have the technological and electrical skills to repair and maintain the specialized equipment found in ambulances, fire trucks, and other emergency vehicles. EVTs must be able to perform physically demanding tasks that may require accessing confined spaces; Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of parts and supplies to ensure timely maintenance; and Promotes safety, QIP awareness, and teamwork.

Emergency vehicle technicians typically complete a two-year vocational or community college program in automotive systems technology and take one or more automotive service excellence (ASE) certification exams. Position requires specialized training and certifications from the Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Program, which offers three levels of emergency vehicle technician certification in four areas, including fire apparatus technician, ambulance technician, airport rescue and firefighting technician, and law enforcement vehicle installation. Typical courses for emergency vehicle technicians include suspension and steering, fire pumps, aerial maintenance, and engine repair. Must have some combination of ASE and EVT certification.

Additional requirements:

  • Must be fluent in English

  • Must possess passport book with at least 15 months of remaining validity AND with at least 6 blank visa/stamp pages remaining

  • Must possess driver’s license with at least 6 months of remaining validity

  • NAC-I required
