VMware Senior Site Reliability Engineer - VMware Government Services in Bulgaria

Team Responsibilities

The VMware Government Services (VGS) Operations team is looking for engineers with a diverse set of experiences and skillsets to help maintain VMware’s Government Services on AWS / Azure infrastructure. As a VGS engineer you will provide service insight, response, and service management to maintain high service reliability and availability with low touch through extensible services and platforms, standardized processes, automation of routine tasks, and product feedback.

Role Responsibilities

As a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) on our VGS team you will be responsible for developing and maintaining our Infrastructure as Code in support of VGS product teams. This will involve automation of existing manual process, development of new deployment methodologies to increase efficiencies, and supporting production engineers in solving live issues.

  • Development, configuration and maintenance of the tools and labs used in automating the delivery of the existing application services and infrastructure

  • Development, configuration and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to facilitate rapid deployment of code and faster testing of new features and products

  • Development of internal tools to facilitate automation and provide software solutions for troubleshooting and maintenance for the Cloud Services organization

  • Strong focus on quality automation, while ensuring fast and reliable delivery

  • Conduct post-mortems to analyze failures and prevent recurrence

  • Contribute ideas on how we can continuously improve systems and processes

  • Provide service support by participating in fault reproduction exercises for troubleshooting and remediation.

  • Collaborate with production engineers to help design and develop deployment automation procedures for new service offerings.

  • Perform security patches (software updates) on our applications and underlying infrastructure

  • Drive the product towards higher availability and reliability

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a Development, Operations, Site Reliability, or comparable Cloud Engineering position.

  • Demonstrated experience with Cloud Infrastructure (Azure/AWS)

  • Proven experience in scripting and developing automation in one or more of the following languages: Python, PowerShell, C#, Bash

  • Experience with tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and leveraging those tools for configuration automation

  • Experience deploying, provisioning, and administering production SaaS systems with Windows and Linux based servers

  • Experience with Jenkins or similar build automation tools and CI/CD orchestration tools (PowerShell, Python, Git, Terraform, Packer)

  • Experience providing on-call support for high priority incidents

  • Systematic problem-solving approach coupled with a strong sense of ownership and independence

  • Operational experience with networking and an understanding of networking principles and security

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills

  • Bachelor's in computer science (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Windows & Linux OS Hardening

  • Experience working in a highly secure environment

  • Experience with Microsoft AD, DHCP, DNS, and authentication protocols (oauth2, OpenID connect) etc.

  • Experience with container technologies and microservice architecture like Service Fabric, Kubernetes, Docker etc.

  • Experience with Amazon Linux 2 (AL2)

  • Experience with deployment frameworks such as Terraform, Cloud Formation etc.

  • Experience operating, troubleshooting, and scaling online services

  • Experience reviewing security scans and remediating vulnerabilities

  • Familiarity with security issues in the cloud such as intrusion, penetration, and vulnerability scanning

  • Experience with monitoring solutions: e.g. ELK, Splunk, Nagios, Solarwinds, Wavefront, etc.…

  • Experience with Jira Service Desk and Pager Duty or similar tools

  • Experience with Change Management processes and functions

  • Experience with various data management technologies including relational and non-relational databases and message queues

  • Understanding of SLA, SLO and SLI
