Training Coordinator FD/3Fire Department JOB SUMMARYThis position is responsible for supervising the development and provision of training for department personnel.MAJOR DUTIES*Develops, implements, and maintains a comprehensive training curriculum in accordance with ISO, NFPA, and department standards.*Ensures all personnel certification and training requirements are up-to-date.*Prepares and trains new recruits in preparing for testing and certification.*Responds to emergency incidents; performs the duties of an officer as needed.*Performs field training duties; responds to emergency incidents to assess and instruct personnel on department standard operating procedures and guidelines.*Schedules apparatus maintenance.*Inputs payroll for volunteer firefighters.*Performs related duties.KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION*Knowledge of ISO and NFPA regulations and guidelines.*Knowledge of department standard operating procedures and guidelines.*Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.*Knowledge of adult learning theory.*Knowledge of current instructional technologies and methodologies.*Knowledge of department and county policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.*Knowledge of firefighter training standards and guidelines.*Knowledge of hazardous materials identification and incident mitigation standards.*Knowledge of the capabilities and uses of emergency vehicles and equipment.*Skill in operating emergency vehicles and equipment.*Skill in management and supervision under both routine and emergency situations.*Skill in planning, organization, and decision making.*Skill in public speaking and public relations.*Skill in oral and written communication.SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Fire Chief assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.GUIDELINESGuidelines include department standard operating procedures and guidelines, ISO regulations, NFPA standards, and state and federal standards and regulations. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThe work consists of varied instructional, management, and technical duties. The necessity of delivering training to staff with a wide variety of skill levels and on a wide range of topics contributes to the complexity of the position.The purpose of this position is to coordinate the delivery of training to department personnel. Successful performance contributes to the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of department personnel.CONTACTSContacts are typically with co-workers, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, students and teachers, representative of local organizations, and members of the general public.Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, and motivate personnel.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.The work is typically performed in an office, except while at fire or other emergency scenes. The employee may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, extreme temperatures, hazardous situations, and inclement weather.
