Aerotek Product Engineer in Upper Sandusky, Ohio


Aerotek is currently hiring a Product Engineer for a Tier 1 Automotive Supplier in the Greater Upper Sandusky, OH area and this position will be a Direct Placement opportunity. This position will be within the Product Engineering group where you will be reporting to the Product Engineering Manager and will be surrounded by one other Product Engineer & 2 Designers.

How Work Flows in This Department & the Operations of this Position:

This Product Engineer will follow the part development of their processes from initial drawings to launch. The development of the part is mostly completed when received, but this Product Engineer will have to get everything ready for it to be manufactured within the plant. The Product Engineer will get the 3d Data and 2d drawings along with the development report – then you would do the prototyping and get it ready for production. This would include design reviews, make any changes to the drawings, issue the drawings to the suppliers & pick quotes, kick off tooling, bring in first off tool parts, do the trials (off-tool trials, meet the spec, test the samples, collect data for PPAPs from the customer), and then when the trials are done then it would be manufactured. Also will be having interactions with their Automotive customers (Nissan, honda, Toyota, Subaru) & Vendors which will typically be Video/Audio meetings to answers questions. Travel would be around 10% when travel is deemed more acceptable.

Job responsibilities:

  • Work to design and develop products that meet customer specifications for new launch

  • Develop improved products, concepts, methods, etc.

  • Secure new business with effective designs and successful technical presentations

  • Assist process and production to maximize profit and minimize cost

  • Performing engineering calculations using CAD and solid modeling software to create designs

  • Create quotes: including drawings, materials and processes

  • Lead design reviews with suppliers, customers and internal departments

  • Interpret data and drawings from the Parent Company who is located in Japan

  • Managing all prototype and pre-production activity

  • Create & maintain APQP documents: drawings, DFMEA, DIRL, etc.

  • Create & maintain customer required documents: inspection standards, validation plans and reports, design reviews, etc.

  • Manage test requirements and support development and validation testing (specifications, methods, fixtures, etc.)

  • Manage due dates of all development activities (Customer and Internal)

  • Work with the Company's manufacturing and quality to assure that designed product can be manufactured with minimal downtime and scrap

  • Work with APQP team, purchasing, and sales to assure that all advanced quality planning steps are taken prior to product launch and to assure that product meets all customer requirements

  • Actively participate in value engineering with the customer


  • +3 years of experience as a Product Engineer or Mechanical Engineer that have an association to part development & everything that is entailed from design to manufacturing

  • Must have prior Automotive Experience

  • Must have a 4-yr Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

  • Must have an understanding of PPAP, APQP, and other automotive documentation practices

  • FEA or experience with ABAQUS is a Huge Plus
