Kelly Services is actively recruiting for a Direct Hire Opportunity for a Chemistry Scientific Director for a Dietary Supplement Business.

The Chemistry Scientific Director provides technical expertise in the areas of method research and development, method validation, and overall analytical testing for Dietary Supplements.

The Chemistry Scientific Director will be expected to lead projects and teams in advancing the company's scientific capabilities and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serve as the scientific and technical expert in analytical testing for dietary supplements.

  2. Identify, research, and develop new methods, techniques, technologies; and evaluate their application to the routine or project-based testing of food/supplement/personal care products for the purposes of accelerating business growth. Oversee their timely and effective introduction into the laboratory.

  3. Maintain wide-ranging knowledge in areas of scientific and regulatory interest to the food/supplement/personal care products industries. Understand relevant current and proposed regulations for their potential impact to the business opportunities.

  4. Ensure the scientific integrity of the documentation, execution, and reported output of applied chemistry methodologies. Provide final technical reviews for methods, SOPs, client reports, and documentation submitted to regulatory authorities.

  5. Install appropriate instrumentation care and maintenance procedures.

  6. Provide trouble-shooting support for less-than-optimal method or instrument performance as identified. When necessary, provide the hands-on technical laboratory skills relevant for complex or demanding operations.

  7. Provide guidance and expertise to clients in need of solutions to technical problems, interpretation of laboratory data, and scientific consultation.

  8. Lead the technical discovery activities with new and prospective clients to ensure efficient on-boarding of their testing requirements. Oversee the planning and execution of client projects with complex technical testing or interpretative needs. Will assist in program management for key client accounts.

  9. Maintain affiliations and hold leadership positions within relevant scientific, regulatory, and industry organizations, particularly those with a focus on chemical testing of food and dietary supplements. Cultivate strong working relationships with other key contacts and decision-makers within these organizations.

  10. Support core business development initiatives that strengthen internal and external client partnerships.

  11. Train and advance the development of the key subject matter experts, particularly in areas of core testing categories and/or market segments.

  12. Establish processes to provide a corporate memory of the scientific basis for producing work of high quality with the methods used in the laboratory.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. PhD in Chemistry, Food Science or related field is preferred, but not required.

  2. Advanced knowledge of a variety of analytical techniques and technologies employed in the chemical analysis of dietary supplements.

  3. A broad understanding of extraction and detection techniques as applied to both nutrient and contaminant analytes is critical.

  4. Proven record of method research and development achievements dietary supplement testing, ideally in a contract testing lab environment.

  5. Strong hands-on experience in operating, maintaining and trouble-shooting complex analytical instrumentation, e.g LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS, HPAED-PAD, etc.

  6. The ability to quickly and accurately understand the testing needs of clients; then translate into practical and efficient actions to be taken by the laboratory staff.

  7. Ability to manage multiple technical projects at one time, prioritizing effectively across shared resources.

  8. Create and sustain productive relationships with clients, other scientific experts, and co-workers. A collaborative and solutions-oriented approach is expected.

  9. Ability to travel as needed to client sites.

  10. Excellent verbal and written skills.
