Summary This position is located in the National Weather Service (NWS),Office of Water Prediction (OWP), with one vacancy in Tuscaloosa, AL. Responsibilities The working title for this position is Linux System Administration. As a Linux System Administration, you will perform the following duties: Serve as the Linux Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for implementing and documenting all Linux cybersecurity configurations and applying industry standards such as relevant Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs). Design, configure, and maintain complex applications based on customer specifications including Linux platforms on the Red Hat (RHEL) and Centos architecture. Coordinate cybersecurity UNIX projects to ensure system security, responsible for coordinating or monitoring development efforts and schedules. Communicate complex and technical information orally and in writing to a variety of audiences including providing expert technical advice and guidance on critical digital communications issues. These duties are described at the full performance level of the GS-13. The GS-12 is developmental leading to such performance. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Performing IT system administration in a Linux environment, including installation, configuration, and maintenance; and Diagnosing hardware and software issues and providing general user feedback and guidance. To qualify at the GS-13 level:SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In addition to meeting the IT Competencies above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Planning and coordinating the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software systems in a Linux environment; and Resolving hardware and software interface and interoperability problems in Linux systems. QUALITY RANKING FACTOR: Applicants will receive additional weight on their overall rating if they possess these additional experiences: GS-12 Current possession of a RHCSA, LFCS or Linux+ Certification will significantly enhance your performance in this position. GS-13: Current possession of a RHCE, LFCE or CCIE Certification will significantly enhance your performance in this position.
