Overview
Working at The Salvation Army Family Stores, the Store Clerk assists store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operates and maintains a cash register; responds to customers’ questions; maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensures the security of store items and the cash register.

Responsibilities
Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cashregister; collecting money, counting change, preparing receipts and packaging purchased items
Prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register printouts; ensuring the security andaccountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operatingprocedures, preparing bank deposits as requested
Maintains the neatness and security of the cash register area; ensuring that forms, bags, etc. areadequately stocked
Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricingand/or purchasing of items
Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army; directing customers to the properloading/unloading area, assisting with hauling donations to the storage area, preparing tax receipts asneeded
Places and arranges items in the store as directed; checking all store displays to ensure that itemsare maintained and displayed in a neat and orderly manner, rotating and/or rearranging stock asdirected; returning items to the proper location after customer's have handled
Answers the store telephone in a professional and courteous manner; assisting customers byresponding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule andrecord donation pick-ups
Cleans display racks and shelves; sweeps and mops floors; cleans windows and mirrors; ensures thatthe store is maintained in a clean and inviting manner
Opens and/or closes store doors in accordance with the store schedule
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High School diploma and experience working in a retail store preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Supports the mission statement of The Salvation Army and leads by being an example of Christ to allstaff and customers
Must be available for a flexible schedule to work early shifts, late shifts, and most weekends, in order to observe and provide training to all store employees
Ability to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with customers, management and coworkers, ability to speak Spanish preferred
Ability to operate a cash register and to perform routine mathematical computations and count change
