Opto-Mechanical Engineering At a Glance
Our Opto-Mechanical Engineering team is considered by many to be the best in the industry for 2 reasons.
They develop ruggedized optical assemblies and systems on products that are relied on to protect lives.
The gyro-stabilized optical systems we develop take a serious beating, and every good opto-mechanical engineer knows that assembly distortion is kind of a big deal relative to the geometrical efficiency of the shape of a beam.
This is the team that determines design considerations and analysis, image motion and orientation, precision positioning, fastening and adjustments. Their focus is either on new commercial electro-mechanical drive systems for the optical assemblies from or working on complex new prototypes.
CodeV and ZEMAX is our go-to optical design software, and our Mechanical CAD software is Solidworks.
Precision or Fine Mechanics is an often-used term around L3Harris WESCAM – our Opto-Mechanical Engineers design, build and validate designs using our own test fixtures, submit to rigorous design reviews, share the technical responsibility of the development process and even as far as the selection and management of engineering tools.
