Salary: $83,850 to $104,813 per annum commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Status: Temporary Full-time (up to 2 Years)

University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Manager, Research Planning and Operations in the Schroeder Pain Assessment and Rehabilitation Research Centre at KITE - The Toronto Rehabilitation Research Institute.

SPARC, the Schroeder Pain Assessment and Rehabilitation Research Centre, will be a clinical-research interdisciplinary platform for the investigation of pain disorders involving research with backgrounds in biomedical engineering, physical medicine and rehabilitation, clinical epidemiology and kinesiology. SPARC is looking for a seasoned and self-starting candidate to work with the SPARC and KITE Leadership teams in building the Centre from the “ground up”. Reporting jointly to the Clinical Director, SPARC, and Institute Director, KITE Research Institute, the SPARC Manager of Planning and Operations will be an integral member of the SPARC Leadership team and will lead multiple initiatives to enhance patient experience and care for our patients and their families, in line with UHN’s Strategy Vision of A Healthier World by Transforming Lives and Communities through Excellence in Care, Discovery and Learning.

Responsibilities include: establishing operational and maintenance plans from the “ground up” including patient flow, customer service, space utilization, equipment utilization/maintenance, on-boarding/off-boarding of staff, etc.; designing operating infrastructure, standards, and standard operating procedures for operational effectiveness; overseeing finances, financial disbursements and procurement (including preparation of annual/multi-year budgets, conducting complex analyses (daily/weekly/monthly) of financial data and preparing reports for management review and decision making); developing, coordinating, and maximizing the revenue generation of SPARC; establishing financial sustainability action plan for SPARC; managing stakeholder relationships (including strategic relationships with partners such as the UHN Foundation, government agencies, industry partners, and philanthropic groups); creating and managing the culture of SPARC in alignment with the KITE Culture; performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with this role, as assigned or requested.


  • Masters’ Degree in Business Administration/Commerce

  • Masters’ Degree in accounting and management is highly desirable; working towards completion of a professional accounting program (ie. CA-CPA, or CMA- CPA) preferred

  • Project management and team management experience

  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills a must, in both written and verbal forms

  • Demonstrates strong leadership and motivational skills

  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and outstanding verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem recognition, analyses and resolution skills

  • Excellent decision making skills with the ability to form/defend independent judgement and to use good judgement in assessing difficult situations

  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrates composure under pressure/stressful conditions and to meet multiple and competing deadlines

  • Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement methodologies

  • Exercises initiative and good judgement with ability to multi-task

  • Adapts to and implements change and facilitates its acceptance by others

  • Competent computer skills, preferably Microsoft Office and Outlook applications

  • Relevant current clinical skills, experience and knowledge of private practice of physiotherapy preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to secure new business through soliciting outside stakeholders and development of new programs to increase market value

  • Budgetary preparation and fiduciary management experience required

  • Minimum five (5) years practical and related experience working in a management capacity; a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory/leadership capacity in a rehab/healthcare environment requiredA business/entrepreneurial mind-set, with experience in marketing and promotion an asset
