A research assistant position is available to study behavioral neuroscience related to animal models of autism and empathy. The successful candidate will join an NIH-funded research program focused on understanding the neurobiology of empathy and the relationship between environmental exposures and autism risk in mouse and prairie vole. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in animal behavior, lab bench techniques, and scientific writing. Candidates who are motivated to learn these techniques should apply for this position and will be considered.
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Neurobiology, Biology, Biochemistry or related field.
Preferred: Experience with small animal handling and/or behavioral testing.
Preferred: Experience with bench laboratory techniques, including Western blots and/or genotyping.
Communication and other skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English)
Ability to work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary research team
Ability to perform duties with meticulousness and independence, under general guidance from the PI
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, database searches, and data organization
Working in a research laboratory environment, including a chemical laboratory and a laboratory animal colony. Must be familiar with chemical hygiene and biosafety procedures, and willing to accept training in such procedures. Work may involve some exposure to potential biohazards, chemical hazards and radioactive substances with appropriate protections. Work will involve laboratory rodent handling.
