Senior. Principal System Development Engineer (Input Devices)
The Client Peripherals Engineering is responsible for product development of keyboard, mice, headsets, speakerphones, webcams among many other products. As an Input Device Engineer, you are responsible for the design of the Keyboard, Mouse, and Active Stylus. You will work with the Industrial Designer, Usability and Electronic Engineers to ensure product ergonomic and performance, including low latency, security, and battery life are met.
Leads the mechanical design of keyboard and mouse for commercial and gaming customers
Ensure keyboard and mouse are ergonomically designed for typing accuracy and comfort of fit for extended usage.
Manages the design of keyboard and mouse for gamers, including selection of key switches, geometrical form and fit for different games genre and lighting effects.
Works with Electrical and Electronics Engineers to determine controller solutions for optimal wireless performance, including low latency, interference immunity and wireless security. Determine optimal battery size for balanced usage and weight of mouse
Measures the characteristics of key switches against design specifications
Works with the Usability Engineer, participate/conduct user studies of prototypes to verify the design assumptions and actual experience of use
Resolves product issues as it relates to new NUDDs introduced by the new design into the product(s)
Experience in mechanical design of keyboard, mouse and active stylus
Understand the critical characteristics of great keyboard, including the key travel, typing force, click ratio, tilt angle, and geometry of keycap strike surface
Understand the critical characteristics of great mice, including geometrical form, pressure point against the palm, key travel, click force, and click ratio
Familiar with the characteristics and application of key switches for gaming keyboard and mouse
Familiar with the product and technology roadmap of key switches for keyboard and mouse, including optical switches
Deep knowledge in material selection, and mechanical structural details that influence the comfort of use, longevity of key life, and typing noise
Knowledge in product ergonomics and CMF (color, material and finishing), experience working in a collaborative environment with Industrial Designer and Usability Engineer
Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality concept
Proficient in 3D engineering software and advanced surfacing; preferably Creo Parametric
Degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
Minimum 10 years working experience in product design, preferably in the PC peripherals industries
