Job Description

The Virginia Department of Transportation Staunton District is seeking a senior project manager to work on the upcoming I-81 projects and/or larger projects that will shape the future of transportation in the Shenandoah Valley. The selected candidate will work on a cohesive team leading the management of roadway and transportation-related design projects, consistent with established processes, schedules, budgets, design criteria, standards and specifications.

This recruitment may be used to fill additional positions.

Minimum Qualifications

*Experience reflecting extensive knowledge of roadway and transportation design criteria, construction methods, standards, specifications and agency policies and procedures. *Experience reflecting considerable knowledge of Civil Engineering principles as they relate to roadway design and Standard Design technical knowledge. *Leadership experience to include project and program management, coaching, counseling and training others. *Experience related to building networks and relationships with employees from other divisions, field personnel, contractors, manufacturers and FHWA representatives. *Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. *Ability to supervise staff, programs and budgets. *Valid Professional Engineer’s license. *Skill in the use of computers and software applications. *Project management coursework and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

*Management level experience, work experience in highway civil engineering, report writing, evaluation, research and training.

Special Requirements

Position is designated as “essential” and may be required to work emergency management situations. Valid VA driver’s license. Fingerprint-based background check, references, work history and DMV records will be verified prior to employment.
