As a Laboratory Services Technician (LST) at Regions Hospital you will:
Maintain laboratory and cardiology equipment and supplies
Collect blood samples through capillary or venipuncture techniques from patients of all ages
Accurately obtain a peripheral IV catheter placement as directed by nursing policies and procedures accurately perform and deliver an ECG tracking as directed by cardiology policies and procedures receive and respond to telephone inquiries about laboratory processes and results
Provides professional and respectful customer service to all patients and their family members, healthcare providers and staff
Participate in training of new personnel and any student clinical rotations
Triage order requests for LST services, coordinates lab and IV orders to avoid multi-sticks for patients
The LST will support patients by identifying themselves by name, department and purpose of the visit upon entry to the patient's room and ensuring accurate patient identification and verification is followed. The LST will also responsible for performing pre/post analytical services/functions. This includes processing specimens (centrifugations, aliquot's, STAT versus routine prioritization and distribution to testing sites), analyzes the acceptability of laboratory specimens and triages specimens to maximize workflow and minimize turnaround times and other related functions as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have 6 months of health care experience to include phlebotomy or IV insertion
Completion of a health care program (e.g. CMA, EMT, Paramedic, phlebotomy) may substitute for the above experience requirement
