Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in University College. This position is for the Danforth Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: * Under the direction of the Dean of University College, this senior-level position will lead a newly created department of ten people within the school that is devoted to engaging and retaining St. Louis-based working adults in academic programs focused on professional advancement. Specific responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for relationship-based student marketing and communications; managing enrollment (from recruitment through matriculation); and creating a program of continuous engagement and advising for the duration of each student’s university experience. Informed by ongoing research and insights about the development of the St. Louis workforce, as well as expertise from university faculty, community advisory groups, and the other schools across the campus, the person in this position will build visibility for new and existing part-time programs for working adults. Strategies should address the university’s goal of increasing economic equity and educational access in the St. Louis region. The person in this position will integrate marketing, admissions, and advising functions into a collaborative team with a student-centered approach. *PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. 1. Strategy, Planning and Leadership for Student Engagement, Enrollment, and Communications: * Develop and oversee an innovative marketing and public information strategy that builds Washington University’s image and brand identity within the local community and strengthens and grows community and business partnerships, as part of the WashU Compact. * Develop and oversee relationship-based strategies for engaging working adults as students in University College and other part-time programs around the university. * Lead communication, marketing and media projects for all community and professional learning programs existing across Washington University schools to professionals in the St. Louis region. * Lead direction and creation of new website for professional development at Washington University. * Conduct market research across national peer institutions and within the St. Louis workforce market to understand what new programs the university might develop, particularly programs integrating multiple academic fields. * Occupy a key, senior advising role to the Dean of University College and other university administrators, providing vision, counsel, and strategic direction for positioning and marketing community and professional learning at the University. * Drive the development of new, university-wide programs and events to engage prospective students in the St. Louis community. * Directly supervise University College’s Marketing and Communications, Admissions, and Advising staff as a combined work unit. * Support the Dean in maintaining a positive, differentiated language for the programs and students within University College. * Support the Dean in building regional relationships with employers, educators, and other stakeholders. 2. Manage and Implement Communications and Student Enrollment Strategy: * Develop and oversee strategic messaging across web, print, and social media communications for prospective students, as well as coordinating in-person and high-touch interactions with these strategies. * Perform direct quantitative and qualitative market research efforts to understand perceptions of continuing education at Washington University and to evaluate results of marketing and media relations activities. * Partner with the Office of Public Affairs in media relations efforts, particularly across the St. Louis region, to ensure consistency of message and performance. * Plan, negotiate, and purchase media for campaigns, monitoring invoicing and payment process in accordance with university policies. * Lead a team of communications and admissions staff members to implement University College’s approach to student engagement, from initial contact through the admissions process, following the university-wide strategy. * Oversee reporting of performance metrics for marketing, admissions, and enrollment in all University College programs. * Foster the development and understanding of university continuing and professional education by developing and maintaining a network of relationships with colleagues across campus, other institutions, and professional affiliations on an ongoing basis. 3. Manage Student Experiences, Relationships, and Academic Pathway Strategy: * Lead strategy to connect academic advising to community outreach and recruitment, including lowering barriers to academic advising for the broader community. * Ensure that student experiences and relationships are built on a culturally competent and inclusive foundation that is specifically accessible to working adults, particularly those who come from backgrounds that may have been historically excluded from higher education. * Develop systems of coordinated support for students with high barriers to success in higher education, including clear communication about costs, mitigating unexpected costs, managing school-life balance, and educational support. * Develop new initiatives to allow prospective students across fields to learn about university offerings and be directed to areas of interest. * Manage system of contact for prospective students to be directed to appropriate part of the university for interests. * Cross promote programs in the university. * Oversee advising staff members, organized around academic growth for professional advancement, with multiple student touchpoints. * Oversee development of career advising specific for working adult students, including overseeing future career advising staff. * Oversee development of community partnerships for both curricular and career advancement within programs. Support staff in developing systems for maintaining relationships and engaging employers, partners, and alumni from across the St. Louis region. 4. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in communications or marketing discipline, or related area. * Five years marketing, public relations, higher education or related experience. Preferred Qualifications * Advanced degree with over eight years of relevant experience. * Prior experience working in a University environment, especially in student engagement and promotion for continuing and professional education. * Experience in planning and prioritization of strategic organizational objective. * Experience in developing and executing marketing and communication plans to achieve objectives. * Past experience supervising complex teams and creating a collaborative environment. * Advanced knowledge of student engagement and advising, as well as marketing strategy. * Excellent written and verbal communication. * Design and production expertise. * Successful oversight of marketing and media activities. * Success managing marketing strategies and directing media relations for college, institution, corporation or projects. * Ability to evaluate marketing campaigns for results and communicate outcomes to leadership. * Exceptional relationship, communication, and business development skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. * Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems, to integrate information from multiple sources, to utilize critical and creative thinking, and to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness. * Self-starter with the ability to work nimbly in a small team. * Excellent management skills, including organization, facilitation, and coaching of team members. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $66,866 - $86,990 annually.
