Memorial Health System Cath Lab Manager in Springfield, Illinois

The manager operates within Memorial Medical Center’s corporate and hospital mission, philosophy, goals and objectives. The manager assumes 24-hour accountability for department management and quality of patient care. The manager creates and maintains a work environment conducive to effective communication, collaboration, team building and professionalism. The manager assures that care provided is appropriate to the age of the patients serviced in his/her assigned department and that staff competency requirements include age-specific components. Maintains positive physician and interdepartmental/intradepartmental relations as well as positive employee morale.

Education:

  • BSN required, Master’s degree preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

  • RN registered in the state of Illinois.

  • Holds an ANCC Magnet® approved national specialty certification in clinical or administrative area or completes within 24 months of assuming role.

Experience:

  • At least three years experience in acute care nursing/cardiac cath lab with demonstrated leadership/management skills.

  • Sets and maintains high standards for service to patients, physicians and other hospital departments. Incorporates the needs and concerns of the customers into decision making. Maintains an understanding of the department’s primary patient populations and their care needs/requirements.

  • Acts as a catalyst for organizational change within areas of responsibility.

  • Maintains a sound knowledge base of current trends and developments in cardiovascular practice in order to lead department-based changes to improve patient care delivery. Ensures staff knowledge regarding new equipment, trends, research, etc.

  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to collaborate with physicians, peers and staff.

  • Demonstrates passion for excellence in every aspect of work.

  • Shows commitment to the development of intra-departmental and inter-departmental collaboration for improvement of patient care, department efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Develops working relationships with the medical staff that encourage problem solving on all levels.

  • Involves self with professional organizations and community health-related services and agencies.

  • Encourages and facilitates a work climate conducive to open, honest communication and incorporates an effective feedback mechanism.

  • Demonstrates a communication style, which is supportive, receptive and non-threatening, thus providing an environment that allows for open immediate expression of ideas and problem solving.

  • Inspires staff enthusiasm for and generates commitment to program or project goals. Builds support for changes in direction among staff.

  • Assumes primary accountability for interviewing, selection and retention of department staff.

  • Is accountable for scheduling of personnel to assure quality patient care within budget requirements.

  • Accountable for staff performance monitoring/feedback/appraisal, positive reinforcement and initiating corrective/disciplinary action as necessary, in accordance with hospital policies.

  • Holds regular staff meetings in order to facilitate communication of organizational imperatives/changes as well as department issues.

  • Supports appropriate risk-taking efforts by staff and peers.

  • Maintains a climate, which demonstrates appreciation and recognition of achievements.

  • Assists in the development of and supports programs/initiatives that promote recruitment/retention and satisfaction of staff members.

  • Budget Preparation:

  • Participates in the preparation of the annual budget for areas of responsibility.

  • Identifies capital equipment items needed.

  • Identifies and evaluates present and future staffing needs.

  • Budget Monitoring:

  • Establishes quotas of supplies, analyzes financial and productivity reports.

  • Reviews and evaluates monthly expenditures and operating statements and implements corrective action plans to address variances as necessary.

  • Applies key financial concepts and analysis to decision making. Understands drivers of financial performance (physician referrals, capacity utilization, payment denials) and takes these into account in developing strategies and making financial decision.

  • Reviews and evaluates charge master for accuracy and completeness. Applies for new procedure codes as necessary.

  • Designs and implements cost-effective strategies that will enhance effective and efficient patient care delivery.

  • Maintains sound knowledge base of current trends and developments in health care related to reimbursement issues.

  • Formulates a future course that reflects the needs of the department that is aligned with the organization-wide vision and strategic plan. Translates the course into goals and objectives for the department, sets priorities and engages the efforts of staff toward accomplishing goals and objectives.

  • Reviews goals and plans of action with staff on a regular basis. Develops mechanisms with staff to fulfill department and personal goals and objectives. Offers challenging growth opportunities to staff and provides necessary coaching and training.

  • Holds team and self responsible for maintaining the highest possible performance standards and agreed upon commitments.

  • Provides performance feedback that is constructive and actionable, that highlights successes as well as areas for growth, and is based on objective metrics.

  • Identifies quality improvement opportunities and uses appropriate QI tools/techniques to evaluate potential solutions.

  • Proactively monitors key performance indicators and makes real-time adjustments to ensure that performance stays on track.

  • Leads intra-and inter-departmental problem solving to ensure resolution of clinical care issues and adoption of “best practices.”

  • In cooperation with the physician leaders and staff, implements and evaluates evidenced-based care in relation to a particular patient population. Measures and validates that identified outcomes are met.

  • Recognizes and acts on opportunities for growth and improvement to advance hospital and health system goals. Confronts problems quickly and enthusiastically.

  • Regularly assesses priorities and competing demands and adjusts allocation of own and staff time and resources to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Provides opportunities and resources to encourage staff to participate in research/scholarship activities.

  • Fosters collaborative research relationships with other healthcare institutions and healthcare providers.

  • Adheres to behavioral standards.

  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
