THE POSITION

The DMVA is seeking a Cook 1 to provide Support to the Dietary's Department and to support our mission to provide superior care to our resident Veterans and their spouses.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will:

  • Function as a lead worker by assigning, coordinating, participating in, and reviewing specialized and routine production tasks performed by lower-level cooks, food service workers, and patient and student help.

  • Establish techniques and procedures for cooking, and develop and adjust recipes to attain higher standards of quality and ensure accurate quantity measures.

  • Instruct subordinate cooks, food service workers, and patient and student help in the performance of specialized and routine production tasks and in the care and use of kitchen utensils and equipment.

  • Estimate food production needs; and requisition ingredients and supplies.

  • Participate in the production and cooking of a variety of meats, vegetables, casseroles, soups, and sauces in large-scale food production for both regular and therapeutic diets.

  • Review census and menu data; adjust recipes accordingly, and recycle leftover food into usable food products to reduce waste.

  • Prepare special menu items for special meals, meetings, and banquets.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Experience as a cook in a large volume food preparation operation; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Food Service experience in a long-term care facility.

WORK SCHEDULE:

6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

Flex schedule; Wednesday - Sunday; days off Monday & Tuesday

Lunch Period: 30 Minutes
