About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a recent chemical engineering graduate. The individual selected for this position will be developing and commercializing new catalytic and adsorption technologies to support LanzaTech processes. Initial responsibilities will focus on research and development of gas processing technologies at the bench and pilot scale. The individual will progress to supporting commercial designs based on development work. Individual will support the startup of commercial process units.

Participate in many facets of gas processing technology development including:
Fundamental catalyst and adsorbent research.
Catalyst and adsorbent evaluation, including design and construction of testing apparatus.
Development of test methodology and data analysis techniques.
Conceptual gas treatment process engineering design, including process simulations.
Support of detailed design and review with the contractor.
Participate in all safety HAZOP, PHA, SIL activities.
Generate detailed unit standard operating procedures (SOP) and equipment procedures (EP) during the detailed engineering design.
Participate in operator training activities prior to the commissioning of the plant.
Provide technical guidance to ensure smooth and safe start-up of the plant.
Provide technical leadership in executing the required production plan and troubleshooting problems.
Determine procedures for operating plant mass balance and calculate/analyze yields.
Monitor and analyze utility and raw material consumption for cost estimation and reduction.
Provide ongoing recommendations to optimize and fine-tune operations.
Provide support for turnaround activities such as catalyst loading/unloading, equipment cleaning.
Provide operational and technical support for any plant system change and revamps. This includes operational review, assistance with cost/benefit analysis and participating in HAZOP/PHA reviews.
Write up novel concepts as invention disclosures and participate in the patent application process.
Travel to various sites around the world to assist in commissioning, start-up and advising plant operation.
Travel to various pilot plant around the world for running the pilot unit.
Interface with existing and potential customers and their teams to advise gas treatment, fermentation, and product separation operations.
Assist with training of staff at new plant globally.
Participate in all aspects of a safe work environment.
Programming of control and data acquisition systems.
Process operation and data collection.
Statistical analysis and presentation of data.
Troubleshooting of multistep process technology.
Documentation of pilot plant operability, including management of change, hazard identification.
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. Other degrees will be considered, with appropriate work experience.
Hands-on attitude is a must.
Experience in laboratory setting.
Troubleshooting ability and aptitude
Detail-oriented with a drive to completion.
Experienced in communicating technical instructions to other team members.
Team player that thrives in a cutting edge, fast paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and work independently.
Strong experience in MS Office.
Advanced degrees are a plus.
Analytical experience is a plus.
Experience designing, building and modifying bench scale equipment.
Experienced user of Swagelok and Valco valves and fittings.
