Job Summary

Assembles modules by hand soldering surface mount electronic components and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) devices to PCBs, using MIL-STD 883, J-STD and Microchip Technology processes. Fabricates wiring harnesses, cable and connector assemblies. Mechanically assembles the individual components into a completed product using proper ESD procedures. Assists other assemblers with training in approved processes. This position supports the development of the members of the team and promotes the established Guiding Values of Microchip Technology.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Solders electronic components, wiring harnesses and installs SAW components on printed circuit boards (PCB) using assembly drawings and travelers provided through computer networking.

  • Leads the Module Assembly team and assists in training and development of team members.

  • Completes module assembly by installing PCBs into module cases using assembly drawings and travelers provided through computer networking.

  • Performs quality inspection of purchased and manufactured products in accordance with established Microchip procedures before and after any assembly task.

  • Documents all instances of inspection thru the Work Order Event Database. Reports any unusual discrepancies or problems promptly to management.

  • Signs off travelers and moves product forward to Inventory or Test department.

  • Proactively participate in Lean Manufacturing activities.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment performing assembly and soldering tasks.

  • 3-5 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • Experience in training others in electronic assembly tasks and processes.

  • Current IPC J-STD-001 certification. (Space Addendum cert preferred but not required )

  • Ability to inspect completed work of self and others to Mil-Std-883 and IPC J-Std-001 standards and ability to identify non-compliances.

  • Experience using a microscope.

  • Experience using Microsoft Windows, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to communicate well in English, both verbal and written.

  • Hands-on experience with electronics manufacturing, materials, and processing.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with individuals at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience using Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.

  • Experience with rework of electronic assemblies with compliance to IPC-7711/7721 standards.
