As part of the EC2 Firmware Team, you will work at the intersection of EC2 Hardware and rest of software stack in the Nitro card. Nitro Firmware Team owns infrastructure and mechanisms to integrate and update firmware for the different components to the fleet on a regular cadence. Key metric is to make sure software/firmware deployed to the EC2 fleet are functioning at scale with reduced failure and improved customer experience. This team is also responsible for development of tools and processes to measure firmware performance, qualification, monitoring and deployment across all EC2 platforms.

You will be involved in hands-on software development including software design reviews, implementation, code reviews, new platform enablement, automated test development, deployment, and monitoring to make sure your code is working properly at scale. You will closely engage with silicon designers, hardware engineers, internal/external partners to design, bring-up and launch new EC2 compute platforms.

This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.

· Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

· Bachelor's degree in computer science related fields OR 1+ years equivalent experience in software development

· BA/BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience

· At least 3 years of industry experience focused on C/C++ development and Java/Lua/Bash/Python scripting language

· Proven RTOS concepts with low-level embedded development experience.


· Knowledge of agile software development and iterative and incremental software delivery.

· Experience in communicating with users and other technical teams to understand software features

· Be able to thrive in a fast paced, high energy start-up like environment

· Excellent problem solving abilities

· Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, ranging from UI through to back-end systems
