Job Description

Job Purpose/Role:

Be the strategic tech partner and single tech point of contact to Kite’s R&D function, leading ID, design and delivery of tech solutions to enable critical R&D business objectives

NOTE: This role can be based in either Santa Monica, CA, Foster City, CA, or Seattle WA.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategy development:

  • As part of Kite IT Leadership team, support defining of IT strategic priorities

  • Support R&D business in defining tech, digital, and data analytics priorities; define technical requirements to deliver against said priorities

  • Tech transformation:

  • Be a strategic tech partner to Kite’s R&D digital transformation

  • Drive adoption of tech solutions within R&D through effective change management and communications

  • Business solution delivery:

  • Mobilize capabilities from across Kite IT and Gilead IT to enable delivery of tech solutions to R&D

  • Own R&D tech platforms & products, while managing e2e support and delivery

  • Manage roadmap for R&D platforms, and sequencing and prioritization of backlogs

  • Manage IT investment governance process for R&D tech investments

  • Support IT and business in building and prioritization of Kite’s IT project portfolio

  • Performance management and enablement:

  • Deliver against Kite IT’s talent and sourcing strategy

  • Enable Agile delivery of R&D tech solutions

  • Support IT functions in ensuring compliance with key tech standards, and delivering against Kite’s architecture roadmap

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 12+ years of IT experience in Industry

  • Master’s degree and 12+ years of IT experience in Industry

  • Bachelor’s degree and 14+ years of IT experience in Industry

  • High school degree and 18+ years of IT experience in Industry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IT experience with extensive business interaction and domain focus, including 2+ years working under a CIO / equivalent

  • Deep expertise in working with R&D function in biotech space (LIMS, clinical systems, medical affairs, clinical trial management systems, trial master files, key opinion leaders, and tracking systems etc.)


  • Proficient with working with stakeholders across various levels of IT and R&D business

  • Recognized “Thought Leader” with excellent executive communication skills, and commanding presence in discussions with senior leadership

  • Experienced in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and portfolio management

  • Ability to lead and manage team of IT professionals in an often-ambiguous environment

  • Knowledge of working in managed services delivery paradigm based on business outcomes

  • Work experience and strong knowledge of end-to-end IT software and systems solution delivery from idea conception, design, development and/or configuration, and transition into production support and maintenance

  • Possess strong understanding of R&D's data and informatics and the context around how it is generated, structured and effectively utilized demonstrate how IT can exploit it to maximize business impact

  • Strong focus on process, continuous process improvement and quality to enable innovation

  • Ability to collaborate and fosters partnerships with business and technology colleagues

  • Proven track record of working in Agile (e.g. SAFe, Scrum, Kanban) and DevOps ways of working in the IT landscape
