PositionDescription: In the context of design-buildconstruction, lead process to deliver an efficient and economical designthrough the bid and construction phase, which satisfies client scope and technicalrequirements.Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:Determine fundamental direction ofthe design.Lead the entire design team and designprocess continuously from first step in design phase (schematic design), throughoutexecution, and until completion.Act as integral part of theconstruction team, working closely with the Project Executive/Manager and playinga decisive leadership role.Establish appropriate scopes and contractualagreements between Designers necessary to deliver project.Communicate effectively between Designers,Construction team and client representatives.Secure that design in all phasesmeets contractual obligations through review and approval of all constructionand shop drawings generated by the design partners and subcontractors.Manage timely delivery of all designdocuments.Generate and coordinate the relevantsubcontractor contractual language relating to design.Initiate design reviews and leverageopportunities to optimize design, improve constructability, and detect risks.Understand and utilize Lean constructionmethods in a manner that minimizes costs and speeds the delivery of designpreparation.Strive to create designs deliverable in an optimally safe and efficientmanner (using prefabrication and other Lean techniques), while balancing first costsand life cycle costs.*Mayperform other duties as necessary or assigned.Position Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architectureand fifteen years' experience in engineeringor design Project Management including theConstruction Administration portion of engineering and design management or an equivalent combination of education,training and/or experience. Previous industry experience as Designer, a plus, although not required.DBIA membership/certification required.Ability to think in a highly structured manner along all design disciplines whilealso having the required creativity to develop specialized solutions andanticipating potential challenges and opportunities. Enjoy working in aninterdisciplinary team environment while keeping an independent professionalview on the design. Proven leadership skills necessary to head up large teams andto steer the Team to achieving set goals. Provenextensive work experience in Designing, Estimating and Scheduling. Cross-functionalknowledge of the key engineering disciplines (Architectural, Structural,MEP/ HVAC etc.) and the relevant trades.
