University of Washington Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time (100%), day shift, CLINICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 2. Under general supervision, perform at a technical level, various routine laboratory procedures, prepare and set up specimens for laboratory testing, and other laboratory work that supports the operation of a clinical laboratory. This position will rotate through the molecular and flow cytometry sections of the Hematopathology Laboratory. RESPONSIBILITIES: This individual will train other CLT1's and CLT2's in basic laboratory skills such as extract DNA from various specimen types; perform BCR able testing; cell counts Quality control on the reagents Perform specimen processing consisting of receiving, sorting, identifying, and labeling blood, bone marrow, and other biological specimens Enter patient and specimen information into log books, laboratory computer systems and databases Prepare reagents, stains, controls and other solutions Operate laboratory equipment such as centrifuge, balance, computer, microscope, and automated pipettes Assist with inventory and ordering supplies Mail, fax, and file reports, assign billing codes, prepare laboratory records for storage and archives, and perform other clerical tasks as required Enter data into spreadsheets, type and edit word documents, tables, and graphs Answer the telephones, respond to telephone inquiries about turn-around times for testing and specimen requirements, troubleshoot problems and transfer calls to technologists and hematopathologists when appropriate Label, distribute, clean and file specimen slides Fill out the appropriate shipping forms and package specimens and slides for send-out Perform volume verifications on pipettes Demonstrate routine laboratory techniques to students and new employees
- Follow safety procedures and protocols. Participate in providing emergency coverage, overtime, and call back Perform other duties as required REQUIREMENTS: An Associate Degree from a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program including courses in chemistry and biology OR equivalent education/experience.
Experience accessioning and processing specimens in a clinical lab
Familiar with MAC computers and Microsoft WORD and EXCEL
Familiar with the Sunquest LIS
Excellent phone skills, emphasis on customer service
