The Flight Paramedic functions on an aircraft performing prehospital emergency responses and interfacility tranports as a member of a two person care team. When paired with a Flight Nurse, the Flight Paramedic would be responsible for direct care of the patient as appropriate for the scope of practice. The two person care team is responsible to assess and apply appropriate medical treatment protocols to care for the patient. The Flight Paramedic directly reports to the Clinical/Operations Manager which handles non-clinical job performance items. The Flight Paramedic provides patient care under the authority of the Medical Director and reports to the Clinical Manger for clinical care issues.
To provide safe, high quality care to critically ill or injured patients in the pre-hospital or inter- hospital settings. The flight paramedic will work as a team member in conjunction with the flight nurse in both field situations and interfacility hospital transports. Provides ongoing monitoring and management of the critically ill or injured during transport.
Mininum Three (3) years of ALS/primary 911 experience.
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a certified EMT Paramedic (EMT-P) in the State of Ohio. Must be licensed EMT Paramedic in the state of Michigan or obtain prior to air orientation completion.
BLS certified (AHA CPR for a Health Care Provider) ITLS, ACLS, PALS, PEPP, NRP. TNCC and CE instructor card within 1 year of hire. Obtain FPC within 2 years of hire.
Maintain flight weight according to flight weight policy.
Ability to work independently and make decisions away from the controlled hospital environment.
Must be able to understand directions, communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively and have excellent public relations skills.
Must be able to maintain composure and utilize tact in stressful situations.
Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, temperature changes, and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids.
Must be able to tolerate exposure to odors such as diesel, jet fuel, and truck/aircraft engine exhaust.
Must be able to tolerate working in environment of extreme heat, cold or weather changes.
Meet physical agility requirements.
Must be able to frequently move, lift or carry light to heavy patients and/or heavy equipment and materials.
Must be able to remain functional in a moving vehicle and aircraft.
Must be able to read maps and follow directions.
Must be able to input and retrieve information from computer.
BTLS, and National Registery preferred.
