Maxar is currently seeking enthusiastic, creative, and space loving engineers to join our CORE Engineering Team in 2020 as part of our talent development program.
Software Engineering is comprised of various roles that contribute to the development, production and test of satellites. These roles design, implement, and deliver embedded flight software, provide spacecraft simulators, payload tools, and ground software, and validate software products. In addition, they develop and deliver hardware testbeds to external customers for software development, and integrate and customize Design and Manufacturing Engineering applications to create a connected system of services. All roles involve significant collaboration with interdisciplinary teams from multiple subsystems.
A Software Core Engineer will have the opportunity to take on and master a specific role before rotating to another role to learn more about other disciplines. The goal is to provide individuals with experiences in development, production as well as test such that they can fully appreciate the impact of each phase prior to settling in a specific area of specialty.
Potential Roles: Software Systems Engineer, Flight Software Development Engineer, Simulations Development Engineer, Ground Software Development Engineer, Validation and Hardware Engineer, Design and Manufacturing Software Engineer, etc
Required Skills and Experience :
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines
Depending on the Software Engineering role, the candidate should demonstrate their abilities in some or all of the following, through prior internships or group project experience:
Mathematical skills, particularly numerical analysis methods and linear algebra
Utilizing software compilers and other software development tools proficiently
Implementing embedded software in C or C++ or an RTOS such as Greenhills Integrity, VxWorks, or RTEMS.
Software revision control systems and workflows (e.g. Git, Subversion, Mercurial).
Working comfortably in a Windows environment, and Linux operating systems / distributions
Python programming language
Debugging and trouble-shooting
Innovation, troubleshooting and solving problems, particularly showing how you come up with ideas that are new, better or unique, or illustrating new ways of looking at old problems
Collaborating with team members of different technical disciplines
Ability to manage ambiguity (especially in understanding impacts and their management), learn quickly, plan, and adapt
Willing to take responsibility and to be held accountable, particularly for the resolution of issues (local, interdisciplinary, interorganizational)
Integrity and Commitment -- must be able to be trusted and respected by all, be credible, flexible, appreciative and fair
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Familiarity with spacecraft command and data-handling systems
Experience with software to hardware communications via GPIB, Ethernet, USB or device drivers
Experience utilizing CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins)
Knowledge of LabWindows/CVI, JSON/XML (over HTTP), Thrift/XML-RPC/SOAP, Tomcat or Jetty or Apache
Experience with Arduino, Beaglebone or Raspberry Pi
Familiarity with National Instruments Hardware and Device Drivers
