Google Communications Manager, Google Sustainability in San Francisco, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 10 years of experience in public relations, media, or communications.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong experience in public relations and media.

  • Experience leading corporate and policy communications programs.

  • Experience leading energy, environment, and sustainability communications programs.

  • Ability to communicate with technical leadership.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

As a member of the Global Communications & Public Affairs team, you will work cross-functionally to help communicate with journalists and other thought leaders; devise specific communications materials and campaigns; engage in face-to-face meetings with commentators and other opinion formers; and develop print and web-based material supporting these campaigns. We're looking for great communicators who can understand complex issues and explain them in person and also via well written, simple blog posts, FAQs, video scripts and more.

As the Communications Manager for Cloud Sustainability in Google Cloud, you will own the integrated strategy and lead the global communications narrative for Cloud’s growing energy and sustainability practice. We're proud to operate a clean cloud industry and are committed to getting even cleaner.

You’ll work cross-functionally to lead our communications strategy; work closely with our sustainability and business executives; communicate with journalists and other thought leaders. You'll devise specific communications materials and campaigns and develop messaging and positioning. You are an enthusiastic team player and self-starter who can work cross-functionally and isn't afraid to take measured risks and try new things.

  • Work closely with our data center energy and operations teams to lead communications around global energy initiatives, as part of the central Cloud Communications team.

  • Manage communications activities around carbon-free energy agreements, energy partnerships and technology initiatives, and carbon-free energy advocacy.

  • Drive an ambitious media/public relations program, develop simple yet high-impact blog posts, FAQs, video scripts, and more.

  • Secure earned opportunities in influential publications to tell our story, highlight our energy progress, announce new products, and tell our customer stories.

  • Build and execute a compelling thought leadership program including speaking engagements, white papers, bylines, and op-eds focused on our unique approach to 24/7 carbon-free energy.
