Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer III will be a part of an engineering team developing the next generation of laser systems for defense applications. This person will be participating in development of electrical/embedded architecture and design, integration and debugging of new electrical hardware and validation of the design in a structured engineering environment to applicable RTCA guidelines, military, SAE and US Defense standards. Additionally, this person will be responsible for documentation of the design changes, supporting transition of new designs to production, as well as for solving complex engineering problems associated with new product introduction.

Job Location: San Diego, CA

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for working with a group of engineers on electrical designs and completion of activity on time and budget

  • Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems or subsystems

  • Review customer specifications and requirements and develop designs to best support these requirements

  • Management of electrical requirements and specifications

  • Documentation of design architecture and formal design synthesis

  • Modeling and simulation of performance of electrical circuits

  • Electrical schematic capture and BOM maintenance

  • PCB layout and production of PCB cam files

  • Hardware in the loop design verification testing

  • Participate in failure root cause analysis and implement corrective actions

  • Support rapid prototyping

Job Responsibilities Part II

  • Development of production validation and product acceptance test criteria

  • Support transition to production

  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services

  • Develop prototypes to retire key development risks

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as required

  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization


  • Requires a BSEE or equivalent degree

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of Electrical Design experience

  • Requires proven experience with microcontrollers and/or embedded processors

  • Requires proven experience in analog circuit design, ADC/DAC, DC-DC convertors and controllers

  • Requires experience using Altium Designer Suite for Schematic Capture, PCB Layout, and build file generation

  • Experience in developing and testing to applicable US Military standards desired

  • Once hired, incumbent is required to develop designs per applicable US Military and RTCA DO-178/254 standards

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
