We have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Analyst to join our Financial Planning and Analysis group located in Poway, CA.

This position reports to the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, and under limited direction is responsible for Business Planning & Consolidation (BPC) tool support and consolidated forecasting and reporting. Will work with team members in order to support the development and modification of financial planning practices and procedures, ensuring that financial planning activities are successfully implemented and meet overall objectives and required regulatory standards while improving efficiency. Will prepare budgets, forecasts, and related reports to monitor overall financial performance and for use in annual strategic planning and executive presentations. Responds to inquiries, identifies issues, and guides the development on innovative solutions to complex and diverse challenges concerning a variety financial data, some of which contain confidential and sensitive information, which require tact and discretion in handling. Makes internal and external presentations and may represent the company as the primary financial contact.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Budget and forecast support - Annual P&L budget and forecast, quarterly operational forecast coordination, analysis and reporting, variance analysis of actual performance vs. budget/forecast, and support forward pricing rate proposal.

  • Provide BPC tool support, including data loads, testing of new features and/or resolution of outstanding issues, data maintenance, data validation, report writing, etc., and becoming the subject matter expert on the tool.

  • Develop and maintain various financial models, templates and reports distributed for use during the planning process. Ensuring quality, accuracy and focused analytic review.

  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting & analysis of the results of the company’s performance against historical, budgeted, forecasted and strategic planning results to facilitate decision-making toward the achievement of the budget and strategic plan.

  • Provide variance analysis activities throughout the year, driving ad hoc analytics to support the business as well as similar efforts when requested, routinely provide operational financial performance trends, historical & forecasted using appropriate metrics.

  • Support collaborative development of modeling tools, review of existing financial processes and development of new and/or improved planning processes, identify financial issues, recommend solutions and provide corrective action to any financial discrepancies.

  • Assists in establishing the company’s revenue, cost of sales, gross margin, discretionary spending through profit (loss). Forecasts for multiple fiscal years.

  • Provide support for executive level presentations, including financial reports, charts, tables and other exhibits, and support business partners with ad-hoc reporting.

  • Responsible for performing special projects to improve process efficiency and performance as assigned by Management

  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in accounting and/or finance and ten or more years of progressive professional cost accounting experience in a corporate environment, preferably with a government contractor.

  • May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • Demonstrates an extensive technical expertise and application of industry and government cost accounting principles, theories, concepts, standards, and practices, with the ability to organize, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established milestones with some experience in project leadership.

  • Must be customer focused and possess: (1) the ability to identify issues and develop solutions to a variety of complex problems of diverse scope and complexity; (2) excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report, and present accounting and finance findings: (3) excellent interpersonal skills to influence and guide all levels of employees, including senior managers and senior external parties on accounting and finance matters; (4) the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; (5) the ability to represent the department or company on projects ; and (6) excellent computer skills.

  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
