Humana Associate Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting in San Antonio, Texas


The Associate Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting analyzes and forecasts financial, economic, and other data to provide accurate and timely information for strategic and operational decisions. Establishes metrics, provides data analyses, and works directly to support business intelligence. Evaluates industry, economic, financial, and market trends to forecast the organization's short, medium and long-term financial and competitive position. The Associate Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.


Develop and Own Key Component of Humana's Trend Analytics Process

Goal: Leverage Actuarial Methods, business acumen, and modern technology to predict and communicate future unit price. Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization.

  • Increase accuracy

  • Automate Inputs for Hospital, Physician, and Ancillary

  • Utilize Contract Calendar to align better with other reporting

  • Increase relevancy

  • Build tools capable of handling Market changes more easily

  • Sales priorities

  • Contracted networks

  • Refine use of IDs to avoid siloed data

  • Increase flexibility of report timing and content

  • Calculate Stop Loss and other trend drivers

  • Incorporate ASO

  • Reduce burden on contractors

  • Use existing and developing data sets as inputs to replace manual data entry

  • CIS tables

  • Contract Calendar

The Associate Actuary, Analytics/Forecasting ensures data integrity by developing and executing necessary processes and controls around the flow of data. Collaborates with stakeholders to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoots problems, conducts root cause analysis, and develops cost effective resolutions for data anomalies. Begins to influence department's strategy. Makes decisions on moderately complex to complex issues regarding technical approach for project components, and work is performed without direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation

  • MAAA

  • At least 3 years of SQL experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Modernize Commercial Unit Cost Inflation Database

  • Experience with programming language such. C#, Python

  • Extensive business knowledge of Commercial Medical Insurance

  • Broad understanding of Medical Insurance pricing

  • Strong communication skills

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences

  • Computer Science Major/Minor, or experience in Computer Science
