Job Summary

Provides computer support by troubleshooting and correcting problems with computer hardware or software applications. Hybrid position made up of assistant and entry level computer positions (including but not limited to: Systems Support Assistant, PC Maintenance Technician, Production Assistant, etc.) May assist technicians and other computer staff with hardware and software applications. Maintains web sites. Maintains databases, network accounts and programs for specific department needs. Backs up department computer systems on scheduled intervals. Serves as a help desk resource for assigned areas.

This position is considered Category IIA : Not required on campus and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID -19. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics COVID -19 Telecommuting Agreement.


1. Troubleshoot WebEx, classroom, conference rooms —>Start meetings, record, mic setup, etc.

2. Computer setups —>install Windows/MacOS, Adobe, Office, Printers, Box Drive, encryption, etc.

3. Trim and cut recordings

4. Upload videos to Kaltura, edit, manage video recording, and place in a box file as needed

5. Make website changes as requested, create new pages, news stories, etc

6. Post content to social media as requested

7. Replace hard drives and memory in Mac and PC laptops and desktops

8. Perform minor hardware repairs

9. Research tech and make purchase recommendations —>new computers, laptops, server spaces, computer repairs, etc.

10. Be the liaison for DBMI for helpdesk, phone support, etc.

11. Help people connect to CHPC resources —>accounts, clusters, etc.

12. Troubleshoot computer/tech related issues —>Whatever comes in/figure it out

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in a computer related field or equivalency (2 years related work experience may be substituted for 1 year of education). Two years of related experience preferred. Demonstrated computer skills, human relations and effective communication skills are required.
