State of Utah - Jobs Assistant Director in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Department of Environmental Quality is seeking an Assistant Director to work in the Division of Water Quality. In this position,you would serve as the Acting Director in the event that the Director is unavailable.Principle DutiesAs the Assistant Director you will typically:Lead teams within the Division to develop and execute work in alignment with Division and Department priorities and values.Work closely with the Director to build Division credibility and advance Division priorities with federal,state and local government units,in the media,with stakeholders,and through representation on various boards,councils,committees,or task forces.Develop and execute strategic plans for new initiatives in partnership with other Division managers and staff.Assist the director in executing all aspects of the Division's water quality programs.Review regulatory documents (permits,enforcement,standards) to ensure consistency with the law and scientific and engineering accuracy.Ideal CandidateThe ideal person for this position will possess:At least 5 years of experience with project and-or program management.A strongknowledge of Clean Water Act,Utah Water Quality Act,Utah's Administrative Rules,and associated guidance that govern water quality programs in Utah.An abilityto think strategically,anticipate needs,solve problems,and effectively develop and execute a strategic plan for multi-year initiatives.A knowledgeof process improvement tools and willingness to lead and implement process improvement initiatives.An abilityto work with a wide range of stakeholders,at times with competing interests,to solve problems and advance Division objectives.A strongwritten and oral communication skills,including ability to convey complex information and ideas to a varied audience.PreferencesPreferences may be given to those with a Bachelors degree or higher in physical or biological science,engineering,environmental policy or related degree.Why You Should Join Our TeamAs a benefited employee of the Department of Environmental Quality,you will receive great health and retirement benefits.
