Summary The incumbent is responsible for the planning and scheduling of work assignments for Housekeeping Aides. The incumbent monitors work progress, reassigns tasks, and may adjusts work schedules to accomplish the overall mission of the St. Cloud VA Health Care System. This position is located in the Facilities Management Service Line and reports to the Facility Management's Housekeeping Aide Supervisor. Responsibilities Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following: Leads a crew of four to eight Housekeeping Aides to accomplish a full range of housekeeping responsibilities. Performs housekeeping duties to include cleaning of corridors, lobbies, offices, bathrooms, stairways, clinics, waiting rooms, etc. Operates heavy duty, technical equipment such as battery operated, self-propelled floor scrubbers, hot water/steam extraction carpet cleaning machines, self-propelled vacuum sweepers, etc. Ensures that all floors, walls, and ceiling surfaces are cleaned with the proper product to provide the maximum results without damage to the surface. Monitors the work of Housekeeping Aides by observing proper work methods, procedures, and safety practices. Coordinates chair setups/take-downs and other special assignments within the scope of the Environmental Management Services (EMS). Operates government vehicles with approximate gross vehicle weight up to 10,000 pounds. Drives government vehicles to transport supplies, laundry and equipment. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Incumbent must have the physical capability to remain on his/her feet for long periods of time. He/She must be able to stoop, bend, push, pull, reach, and exercise normal body movements to perform cleaning duties. He/She must have the visual acuity to see dirt, cobwebs, etc., to perform the duties of the position. Incumbent must have the physical strength to operate and control the various types of industrial equipment used in the housekeeping activity. He/She is required to set up and perform from ladders, lifts, or scaffolds. Guidelines may include many unwritten policies and practices which may have to deal with judgment, efficiency and priorities rather than with procedural matters. Procedures for doing the work have been established, and a number of specific guidelines are available. The number and similarity of guidelines and work situations requires the employee to use judgment in locating and selecting the most appropriate guidelines, references, and procedures for application and in making minor deviations to adapt the guidelines in specific cases. At this level, the employee may also determine which of several established alternatives to use. Situations to which the existing guidelines cannot be applied or deviated from the guidelines are referred to the work lead or supervisor. Incumbent needs strength and stamina for performing heavy tasks for long periods of time and is continuously bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching while performing duties. Incumbent frequently lifts items weighing 25 pounds or more and may occasionally lift furniture, bags of trash and/or linen weighing between 50-75 pounds. Incumbent is continually standing and walking.
