Job Summary:

Westat is seeking a security assistant who will be responsible for the coordination and processing of requests for federal background investigations and/or Westat background screenings which requires being knowledgeable of project specific requirements.

Candidates must be extremely detail oriented, have a calm demeanor, be very flexible and easily adaptable to changes in routine, have the ability to handle multiple tasks and able to work independently and in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Reviewing and, in some cases, recommending update of forms and instructions according to project specific requirements.

• Creating records in the Personnel Security database and maintaining up-to-date status of investigations.

• Coordinating with applicants to ensure timely return of forms/documentation requested and, in some cases, coordinating appointments with sponsoring agencies.

• Reviewing packet(s) for completeness and following up to obtain missing/incorrect documentation.

• Coordinating initiation of e-QIP (Federal investigations only).

• Submitting requests and completed documentation according to the procedures and timelines peculiar to the sponsoring agency.

• Monitoring status of investigations/screenings from submission to completion.

• Coordinating with sponsoring agency reps, as necessary.

• Notifying study staff, and applicants of results.

• Providing periodic status reports to project POCs.

• Routinely reviewing reports for terminations, expirations and change of assignments.

• Creating, maintaining, reviewing and purging files as necessary.

• Providing assistance and direction in personnel security matters as part of Background Screening Unit Help Desk.

• Scanning and indexing files into FORTIS.

• Advising Security Specialist on ways and means to improve operations of the Background Screening Unit.

Basic Qualification:

• A high school diploma is required and at least 10 years of work experience in a customer service related position is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in using FORTIS.

• Working knowledge of e-QIP requirements.
