Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares and maintains exam/procedure rooms and supplies including anticipating needs of patient and provider. Ensures necessary office/exam equipment is available and properly functioning.
Prepares the patient for exam/procedure providing for the patient's emotional and physical comfort. Obtain vital signs, chief complaint, and other patient data according to protocol and as indicated by presenting symptoms while updating all pertinent information in electronic medical record.
Prepares and assists with exams/procedures including, but not limited to instrument set-up, witnessing consent forms, post procedure patient monitoring and proper cleaning of equipment/instruments. Cleans, disinfects and sterilizes medical instruments according to RHS and manufacturer procedures.
Accurately documents patient information in a complete and concise manner. Maintain proficiency in utilizing electronic medical records through proper scanning, documentation and scheduling
Assist with front office duties per department requirements including, but not limited to chart set-up, telephone message taking, computer entry, operation of office equipment and ordering supplies.
Performs WAIVED Point of Care Testing as per physician's instructions and department protocol.
Collaborate with patient care team, promptly communicating any information that is important for continuity of care. Participates in daily huddles and staff meetings.
Conducts safety and infection control checks and documents as required by Mercyhealth policy. Conducts quality control checks on departmental waive testing equipment and carries out diagnostic testing as required by the department.
Reinforce written patient education material/instructions as directed by the physician. Provide information for patients on after-hours care and options. Work with patients to assist them in developing self-management skills in an effort to change behaviors and improve outcomes.
Prepare, administer and document medications as allowed by the Medical Assistant 2 (CMA) Authorization Agreement.
Process new and refill prescriptions per physician written protocol and Medical Assistant 2 Authorization Agreement.
Receive and carry out verbal and telephone orders from the delegating physician. Provide testing and communicate test results to patients according to the physician's direction and Medical Assistant 2 Authorization Agreement.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of Medical Assistant Program required.
Medical Assistant Associates Degree preferred.
Certification through AAMA or NCCT or other certifying body (other than school certification).
Current CPR certification.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
