Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Post Doctorate RA - Watershed Biogeochemical Modeling in RICHLAND, Washington
Organization and Job ID
Job ID: 311648
Directorate: Earth & Biological Sciences
Division: Atmospheric Sciences & Global Change
Group: Earth System Measurements & Data
Job Description
PNNL has an extensive research portfolio in environmental sciences and biogeochemistry, hydrology, atmospheric sciences and Earth system modeling, including human systems and energy infrastructure. The Watershed and Ecosystem Science Team at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is soliciting applications for a postdoctoral position modeling carbon and nutrient cycling in river corridors and watersheds. The successful applicant will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team of field, experimental, and computational scientists to translate the mechanisms that control coupled hydrologic and biogeochemical processes under current and future climate conditions into multiscale models. The successful applicant will be expected to develop novel conceptual biogeochemical models for river corridor and watershed systems, implement reactive transport modeling from reaction to watershed scales, perform model intercomparisons and benchmarking to evaluate model performance, and perform uncertainty quantification, sensitivity analyses and inverse modeling to improve model performance. The successful applicant will work in a collaborative team environment with scientists across PNNL, and other laboratories, federal institutions, and universities. The successful applicant will be expected to present scientific finding at conferences virtually or by traveling when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.
Preferred Qualifications
Required qualifications:
A PhD degree received after January 1 2016, in environmental science, computational hydrology, ecohydrology, biogeochemistry, or related fields
Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven capability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Willingness to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment.
Experience with numerical modeling using high performance simulation codes.
