Who we are looking for
We are seeking a driven and talented Cloud Engineer to join our thriving Cloud Services business unit and work with some of the best Cloud Architects and Cloud Engineers in the market. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a strong technical skill set, and an ability to deploy Production-ready solutions, software and tools for our customers.
The Cloud Engineer is a very hands-on individual. They will assist other team members in the development and deployment of environments for our customers. They will have opportunities to be involved at all stages of a project - covering requirements capture and assessment, cloud services deployment, security and compliance, systems engineering and operational readiness. They will bring not only knowledge of core AWS services but experience performing systems engineering tasks as part of a project team.
Core Responsibilities:
Understand project scope, timelines, objectives and direction of overall account
Work directly with other team members, customers and key stakeholders
Take direction from, and provide clear and timely updates to, Project Lead or Project Manager
Deploy and configure cloud services according to best practice (e.g.: EC2, VPC, RDS, IAM, CloudFront, Route53, CloudWatch, KMS, Redshift, S3 and Glacier, Kinesis)
Work with Solution Architects to conduct proof of concepts (POCs) and assist in Production implementations
Assess existing application stacks and suggest cloud native services for applicability
Assess existing environments for opportunities to simply, automate or bring efficiency to technical processes
Performing various software installations and configurations (e.g.: SQL Server, Active Directory)
Schedule and perform COTS software upgrades
Identify system or performance issues, and develop resolutions
Draft or contribute to architecture diagrams and data flow mappings
Produce well-written technical project documentation
Write, or contribute to, operational runbooks for long-term environment support
Participate in operational readiness activities
Participate in planning, implementation, and growth of assigned account
Participate in Change Management processes
Maintain core working hours but remain flexible to needed after-hours maintenance windows (as necessary)
Be available for on-call support, and able to provide cloud and systems engineering expertise when operational issues or outages are escalated
Participate as a team player capable of high performance and flexibility in a dynamic working environment
Take ownership of issues and act with high sense of urgency when required
Achieve and maintain AWS certifications
Required Skills and Experience:
Clearance Required: None
A "sure can!" attitude
Bachelors degree in a technical discipline
3-5 years of experience in a role that encompasses both software development and systems engineering
Ability to dissect a technical architectures into engineering plans and discrete tasks
Ability to develop and deploy Production-ready AWS solutions through Infrastructure as Code
Experience developing DevOps solutions from scratch using tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, Packer, AWS Code and related products
Ability to build code pipelines and support deployment activities
Ability to write scripts in Javascript, Bash, Python, or similiar
A good understanding of foundational cloud components (e.g.: VPN, Direct Connect, IAM, CloudWatch, "cross account" capabilities)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytic, organization, presentation, customer service and facilitation skills
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working across multiple vendors in support of common goals
Hands-on experience writing and deploying AWS Lambda functions
Strong knowledge of serverless architecture patterns (or AWS Serverless Application Model) and their components
Strong knowledge of Terraform, Ansible and AWS CloudFormation
