The Strategic Sourcing Group at Microsoft is seeking a Senior Strategic Sourcing Engineer to drive impact and deliver results that enable our Logistics Supply Chain to achieve their delivery, financial, and other performance goals. The Strategic Sourcing Group is responsible for all direct materials and supply chain services sourcing for our first party hardware devices. We develop partnerships with our internal Supply Chain teams and our third-party external suppliers to deliver high-quality services that delight our customers and deliver a fantastic Microsoft experience.
This position will focus on leading one of the strategic services categories in Sourcing. This will include working with a Redmond based team of sourcing professionals, owning supplier and partner relationships, defining the category and supply base strategy, management and negotiation of Logistics Supply Agreements and related contractual execution activities. An ideal candidate will have high ambition to grow with Microsoft. You must be a high energy/impact individual with a demonstrated ability to succeed in a high-demand and stressful environment. Demonstrated ability to successfully navigate through ambiguities, evaluation of alternatives, growth mindset, and superior communications to lead cross-functional organizations through sourcing activities will be required.
Lead and manage the Logistics Sourcing category and own the engagements at all levels with Microsoft's strategic suppliers and partners. This includes ownership of all partnerships and a sourcing portfolio that enables the transportation and distribution of Microsoft's 40M annual branded devices: Xbox, Surface and Hololens.
Use functional expertise in logistics, transportation and warehouse management while leveraging partner insights and requirements to establish and execute market leading sourcing category and supply base strategies via full market knowledge, supplier rationalization, predictable and industry leading pricing plan, and total cost of ownership (TCO) cost modeling through transparent supplier relationship management.
Identify cost optimization opportunities by facilitating internal and partner team collaboration to achieve year-over-year improvements.
Partner with the Logistics Supply Chain team to deliver the most aggressive and closest-to-the-pin costing and budget (capex) projections, with the ability to standup under scrutiny while balancing both cost and performance.
Achieve established commitments on total cost results, supply, quality and compliance adherence, and on-time delivery.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or Business is required.
Minimum 7+ years of experience in Transportation Management preferably within a high-tech manufacturer managing across multiple customer segments such as Retail, Distributor, Consumer, Enterprise, etc.
5+ years of experience managing outsourced transportation logistics services.
3+ years of operational experience within logistics and distribution.
In program management including critical thinking, strong written and verbal communications, and ability to lead within a matrixed team.
Using market intelligence and trends to drive robust benchmarking and cost validation processes.
In contract negotiations and contract management.
